Meltzer and Bundy had Hexy on there podcast. I just listened to the interview portion.
Here are cliff notes on the Hexy part of the show...

Val had coaches trust. That's how you get ice time.

NAK's defense has improved.

3C... kids, Weal, Laughts, Vorobyev. Doesn't see G starting back at center.

Leier bad 2nd half.

Weise needs to play better. Not consistent.

Lindblom had a long, good season. Has coaches trust. Makes proper plays.

Meltzer says Frost wore down late in playoffs.

Hopes to sign Provy before 7/1 next year.

Not sure what is going to happen with Simmer. Tough one. Have to look at term.

Meltzer asks about Cates and Lycksell. Hexy says Cates started slow but then was very complimentary of him. Lycksell is a goal scorer. Both skilled. Excited about both.

By 3c and kids, does that imply Frost?

The coachs are f***ing idiots.

f*** you John Boruk.

Leier bad 2nd half.

Barely touched the ice.

Weise needs to play better. Not consistent.

That's never happening. He's a mutt.

Lindblom had a long, good season. Has coaches trust. Makes proper plays.

Yay.

There were no viable alternatives to Val:

Patrick was awful until February, then he was a 19 year old rookie who lacked strength, and still played the same minutes as Val the last few months.
Laughton was a good forechecker but couldn't pass and was a defensive liability in his D-zone.
Lehtera . . .
Weal . . .

Filppula's legs were shot, but he still knew how to play the game, broke up a lot of plays by being in the right place, blew a lot of plays because his skills had eroded.
Patrick will be great, but even when he had his legs, he lost a lot of board battles and struggled with the physical nature of the game.

Laughton isn't trusted at center, which is why he was moved to LW, Laughton at 3C means Frost is in juniors, Vorobyev is returned to Lehigh for more seasoning, Weal can't cut it at center, and he gets the job by default.
Interesting that neither MV or Bardreau were mentioned (or is that an oversight?).

I wish the coach would stop trusting old guys that the GM would not even sign to a one year deal at $3m when he has $10m+ in capspace. :thumbd:

Have NHL teams ever traded coaches? Hak might actually be appealing to an out of touch old man like Loony Lou.

Why, in fact, yes, an NHL team has traded it's coach before!

I brought this up before, however the mods didn't seem to think it a credible thread to continue.

Honestly it’s probably tough to project right now. A fair amount of unknowns vying for spots then you have Hakstol who’s never saw a lineup he didn’t want to f*** up.

Hextall did not mention them. He did not mention Torgo either.

I believe he specifically said kids(?), Weal, Laughton, and Vorobyev.
Thanks for the heads up. Just listened to it:

This is paraphrased, I didn't catch every exact word.

Hextall: In terms of the 3c, it's up for debate right now in terms of our guys. Assuming we cant do anything between now and training camp. Jordan Weal has played a lot of center in his career, hasn't played a whole lot in the NHL, but he has played some, so he is definitely an option. Scott laughton. We will see how some of our kids do, Vorobyev had a pretty good year in Lehigh Valley last year, that one's gonna have to play out through training camp. We will see where it goes. We feel like we have enough options. Certainly don't see G starting there.
