Trouba wants $8 million per year, so, no thanks. That's Provy's money.
If it doesn’t hurt the future cap, and it likely won’t, who cares how much he gets paid?

The one benefit of having a great prospect pool is the cheap contracts. It allows the Flyers to splurge on a big contract or two.

Getting any defenseman before the ED means that we will have 5 defenseman to protect with 3 spots available.

Protecting Myers alone wouldn't be that costly. Maybe we give up a 1st or 2nd rounder for Seattle to take a different guy, but Sanheim will likely be better and it would cost even more to protect him from Seattle.

The caps had reg season figured out under Trotz. A new coach usually means a slow start. In this case it could mean a lesser reg season. I still think they are the favorite to win the division. Then the pens. Then us. We need a lot to go right, but a division win could happen. If Hak decides to go for and keep wins, we certainly could win it.

If Patrick, Lindblom, Sanheim and Myers play up to near their potential, we can match up with practically any team.
If Frost is ready, and Vorobyev is up by January, we definitely can match up.
If Neuvirth's new trainer can perform miracles, we're headed to the CF.

However, that's a bit too many "ifs," which is why I think 2019-20 is when we go deep into the playoffs.

It's not just Trouba's contract, it's what the cost to acquire him would be. They will/should ask for Sanheim, Myers, Ghost, Konecny, someone like that. It's a non-starter.

We have a ton of prospects to make this happen and not even dent the pool.

Winnipeg is not looking for prospects they are in win now mode you are going to have to put up a player maybe with a little bit lesser value and atleast a top prospect or two and they will be looking for a d man to replace him . There would be lots of teams interested and top bidder wins .

If Myers can stay healthy, he's going to be a better player than Sanheim.
Far more of a two way D-man, big, physical, mobile, not quite as offensively skilled, but that has less value unless you trade Ghost, since there's no opening on PP1.
Myers is already 220 lbs and will probably top out around 6'5 225-230, Pronger size.

The question will be how good can he become defensively, because an elite defensive defenseman with above average offensive skills is the rarest and most valuable player (Doughty) you can find. Name all the defensemen his size who can skate end to end like a guy 30 lbs lighter? Or play effectively for 60+ minutes?

Depends how deeply into the pool too. I'm not enamoured of Trouba's game or attitude to the point I'd trade Sanheim or Myers for him, for example. I think they could both turn out better.
