Will be interesting to see who we have in the AHL next season for Bowers to play with. He & Lewis feel like they'd gel quickly.

Bowers plays a sound enough game that it wouldn't shock me to see him start the season with the Avs. He could play a #4C role with PK time day 1. IMO. Not sure that would be best for him, but he will be a coach favorite with his style of play.

Ugh. I can see that all to well...but if we add someone to anchor that 2nd line between MacK n Soda, I would hope that Kamenev is given another chance to take & run-with that spot in camp.

Especially since Bowers could always be called up & given the 4C spot later...when Kam has his next season-ending injury...

Sucks. He should have went there.

I don't care either way but I also think it's good he's staying. Greer left because he was buried on a good team and playing limited minutes wasn't helping his development. Bowers doesn't have that issue and it seems the only real hockey reason for leaving would be because his team isn't very good. Just stick it out and then turn pro.

This has me excited. Loved him at the WJC.

I’d rather see if we can’t polish his offense some more before he starts making the jump. I don’t doubt that he could play defensively, but not everyone can polish their offense while playing a shutdown role in the NHL, like ROR did.

And though Bowers is unlikely to be a significant offensive driver, there’s a difference between a 20-25 point shutdown center and a 35-40 point shutdown center...which I’d like to do all we can to pull out of Bowers, even if we don’t bring Kam back to get another shot at the 4C gig.

Samuel Pahlsson wasnt a bad 25 point shutdown guy. If thats what Bowers becomes I would be thrilled.

Not sure why it sucks? True the team he's on is in a major culture change from Quinn, but playing time hasn't been an issue which it was with Greer. He probably doesn't see it as a major threat until his ice goes down, however he's on the first line majority of nights. Isn't Drummondville a super French part of Quebec anyway (in regards to language)?

Also I want to say is that Bobo is a really good player, should be this year's top NCAA free agent.

Nikolishin and Yelle were low scoring, but great defensive centers as well. Like Pahlsson they were great on faceoffs and brought a valuable stabilizing presence. If Bowers can become that, it would be great.

Sure, but if Yelle & Pahlsson could have also chipped in 20 goals a year with 15-20 assists, they’d have been even better. And I think Bowers has 20 goal potential to be drawn out of him to go with that defensive prowess.

Yes they would've been....but they wouldn't have been 3rd/4th line centers then. They would've been flirting with 2nd/3rd line duties at that point and have the higher associated cap hit. At some point, the Avs will need two good offensive lines, a good shutdown line and a line that may or may not be cobbled together with players who are specialty team artists or just getting sheltered while getting their feet wet in the NHL. I don't mind spending money on a good 3rd line center....but when Soda is our 2nd best center, he shouldn't be toiling away in that role. That's where low scoring (cheaper) defensive minded faceoff specialist comes in to play.

I miss Niko. Hell I miss a lot of our our bottom six players from years gone by. They knew their role, played it accordingly and didn't cost much. Podes, Hinote, Messier (also played D). At this point, I'd really like to see Greer get regular minutes on the 4th line, if he starts to show his offensive capabilities at this level he can then be tried on the 3rd and we can bump LBN or Calvert down a line. I just think he is perfectly capable of playing solid minutes and be used in a defensive situation.

UMass is up 5-0 over what appears to be a pretty good team based on their record.

Is a national championship and the Hobey Baker a realistic outcome now? Neither Makar nor his team has slowed down at all.

Northeastern isn't as good as they were last year, but is still a damn good team.

This is inaccurate. We all know Makar is 5'11.25 inches tall.

That's why the exact measurement was important to note. Because he wasn't 5'10.5" or something and they rounded up. Leaving open the possibility he could get close to 6'0" by the time he made the NHL, and all the comments about him being undersized, and needing to be elite offensively just to stick in the NHL were ridiculous.
