Split starts between the goalies ideally; if Demko isn't ready then 50-30. A lot of youth up front; Tavares coming to Van is unlikely but there's a high chance Benning goes after him. Benning was licking his chops when it came to Stammer going to FA potentially, would not be shocked to see the same happen here. If JT doesn't sign here, we probably pick up E Kane and Carlson and go with this lineup:

That's going off of my current projections that Benning will spend his cap space to sign Perron, Bozak, Maroon, and Mike Green. Way too early to be accurate about this as some of these players may be re-signed before July 1, and perhaps Tanev doesn't even get traded (or Hutton).

Sign a skilled veteran center to play with Dahlen and Pettersson for a few years until Pettersson fills out more and is ready to transition to the middle. Stastny seems like it might be a good fit. Tavares is the dream, but doubt it would happen. Dahlen will outplay Goldy for the 2nd line position and will be waived.

Joulevi stays in Finland for another year, he's not ready. Who cares about what the D looks like, its going to be bad. Unless we win the lottery.....

We draft Dahlin, Svechnikov, and Dobson with our 1st, 2nd, and 8th overall picks.

I would be very, very pleased if we stand pat vs. the free agent market and just focus on building from within. In that vein, I would see this as a lineup...

- Insulating Pettersson with a defensively conscious veteran winger in Eriksson, plus our most lethal scorer in Boeser, would set him up for success, IMO. Horvat has proven chemistry with Baertschi, and seemed to be clicking with Leipsic. If Leipsic flames out, Goldobin could rotate in as well.

- I like the Virtanen/Gaudette combo. Ideally, someone better than Gagner would be on their wing, but I don't see it happening.

- Archibald/Sutter/Gaunce is our defensive/energy unit.

On defense, I see...

- Olli Juolevi will probably be given a chance to make the team, but I can't see him supplanting any of the "big contracts" - Edler and Tanev (who will be there on merit), and Gudbranson and Del Zotto (because we are handcuffed to them). Stecher and Pouliot are the guys he might take runs at their jobs, but I see him starting in Utica. It's pretty much a given that he will come up at some point in the year once injuries strike.

In goal - Markstrom and Demko. I'd personally be inclined to let Demko marinate a bit more in the minors, but this seems to be the play next year.

All that said - I can see the Canucks doing something stupid on July 1st and going or Evander Kane or something like that. In fairness, I think the brass look at that lineup and worry about our center depth, as that's throwing two rookies into critical roles quite early. They might look for a veteran center to help fill the gap and maybe push one or more of those guys to the wing so they get eased in. Rumors about Bozak are out there today, if he's available. But personally...I'd roll the dice and see what happens.

It's almost impossible to believe that Benning will not try to spend a solid portion of the 25 million or whatever we have in cap space. Tavares is the big fish, obviously, but I don't expect him to come here. Kane is far more likely, IMO.

Depends on who we draft and if they can step in right away. Also assumes that Granlund is moved, though I would much prefer Gagner or Eriksson moved, obviously, but that is seriously unlikely.

I would not be surprised to see Tanev and Hutton moved in the offseason, especially if we are drafting a d-man in the first round. Dahlin would walk right into this lineup.

very very possible. i still think he is our best shot in terms of big name guys who might come here though.
