I posted my proposed opening day lineup in another thread but it deserves it's own. The only thing I might change is swapping Heinen and Debrusk. I think Heinen-Krejci-Donato could be a deadly line.

Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
Debrusk-Krejci-Donato
Heinen-Studnicka-Bjork
Frederic/Nordstrom-Kuraly-Wagner

Chara-Mcavoy
Krug-Carlo
Griz/Moore-Miller
Mcquaid

So much competition and possibilities with the amount of young talent that will be pushing for a spot on the roster.

I think the lineup is better without Backes.

Heinen could move up, but as far as I know he’s only played LW at the pro level.

The RW’s are interchangeable. I went with Donato on Krejci’s line because they had chemistry in the few games they played together.

I still think Studnicka will push for a spot this year based on how good he looked last year.

Some interesting questions coming into training camp

- Should the big line be broken up? There certainly are pros and cons in doing so
- Who is going to play third line center? Heinen, Kuraly, Someone else
- Are we going into the season with 8 defensemen?
- Can Bjork come back healthy and stronger than before?
- Are we in for any sophmore slumps? Heinen and McAvoy both didn't look very strong in the playoffs. McAvoy was injured and Heinen was in a 3 month long slump.
- Can Chara keep father time at bay?
- Can Gryz make Krug expendable?

Still think unless they sign another top 6 forward they are going to give it another shot with Pasta with DeBrusk and Krejci. Also, i think some rookies and Kuraly will battle for 3rd line center. If Kuraly wins then Noordstrom goes on the 4th line.

Marchard-Bergeron-Donato
DeBrusk-Krecji-Pastranak
Heinen-(rookie)-Backes
Wagner-Kuraly-Acciari

Heinen played fairly regularly at RW last year.

There is no way I see Cassidy going with that young a 3rd line? If Bjork is healthy (believe he was supposed to be out until August) and barring a trade:

Marchand-Bergeron-Bjork
DeBrusk-Krejci-Pasta
Donato-Backes-Heinen
Kuraly-Wagner-Acciari
Nordstrom

Z-McAvoy
Krug-Carlo
Moore-Miller
Grizz-McQ

That’s definitely more realistic. It would make more sense to wait until Backes’ partial no trade is up next summer to start thinking about Studnicka making the team. Maybe they should just play rock paper shoe to see who’s stuck playing 3rd line center.

Why would you want Zboril sitting on the 9th floor as the extra defenseman? Cehlarik being a top 6 winger is your fanboy showing. Especially over a guy like Heinen, who has proven it in the NHL.

Note: 3 Centers on 3rd and Balance.
I don't like splitting our top line but we can. All depends on the scenario, we've got real good options.

This is also a message to Marchand for the licking. I'd start my season opener like that, but it's still July...

I think this is spot on if the season started today, as much as I don't like it. Personally I'd have Bjork factor in and Backes down the middle. Seems like a pipe dream given the way Backes has been used to date.

Something has to give at the D and C position. It has to right? That C depth is pretty brutal. Could get ugly if Bergeron or Krejci go down for an extended period.

This is my line up prediction. Heinen in my opinion is a good 3rd line player Cehlairk has proven effective with Krejci and I see as better skilled and capable playing top 2 lines. Btw Sorry I hurt your feelings regarding your heiney.

Not sure about that third line. Maybe Cehlarik competes for the LW, or maybe another kid comes up and takes the spot in camp.

if theres no trades I think our healthy roster is quite predictable at this point...I think we got 23 guys who have a job to lose. I think that its going to require a herculean effort for anyone else to wrestle a job

this isn't the lineup id favor... but its the one I feel will happen

pastrnak/Bergeron/marchand… {spots us to .5 a game lead before the game starts}
{donato or Bjork}/krejci/debrusk… {this is the one weak spot in the lineup that might be won by an outsider}
backes/kuraly/Heinen {maybe Heinen gets a chance to center}
accari/wagner/Nordstrom {maybe Bjork plays here and one of these guys becomes 13th forward}

McAvoy/moore {give McAvoy a skating parter}
carlo/Chara {chara is supposed to bring out the beast in this kid}
miller/krug {krug is a super luxery to have in bottom pair if we can afford it}
McQuaid/grzelyck{I think these guys will get a lot of games}

rask
halak

that's 23 guys who don't have anything to prove in ahl. I don't agree with 8 dmen but it seems the team does. id split up the scoring more but I don't see it happening now. kids need a chance to shine but weve signed veterny 4th liners so it wont be on the 4th line

My feelings aren't hurt. One guy has proven to be an NHLer and the other has not....Even you can figure out which is which.

Bruins won't tho. Backes needs to play center I don't care what he says. Makes the wings soft as butter however in their defense

We ar ein big trouble if Kuraly is our 3rdC.

It would be great if a kid could break out and get that job but lets be realistic. Bjork, Donato and another kid?? i dont see it.

Why? He’s proven to be an effective forchecker with speed being his asset. I believe he’s good at the dot and has a pretty wicked release / scored some nice goals. With more ice time and better wingers he might excel in that role.

The never ending over evaluation of prospects amazes me. Donato and Bjork have proven nothing, Heinen was terrible from February on and if Kuraly is the third line C they better watch out for Florida.

All these line combination hypothesize do is point out what an awful off season Donnie Hockey has had, while his two main competitors have improved he continues to rely on over hyped prospects (that only he, many on this board and Pierre McGuire see as being deep and ready to contribute). I'm amazed I haven't seen Senyshyn on the top line in any of these scenarios so far, but this off season it appears to be Studnicka and Frederic as the flavors of the month.

Long time until the season starts, hopefully there will be more NHL talent in the lineup in October than is being currently projected.

Because he can't score. I like Kuraly and see him as a fourth line center for years to come, trying to make him something he is not will only lead to failure.

Could be but needs to be given opportunity first. I see him succeeding. He creates opportunities and saw some nice goals from him last year. He could excel in that role.

If you want to contend you don't hold auditions for your third line center spot during the season. Add Boone Jenner who can play wing or 3c if you want to try Kuraly as 3c, his speed would work well with Jenner's under whelming speed. If Kuraly can produce 35-40 points as 3c you are set, if not you have a back up playing on his wing and can one of the wonder kids into 3lw or look to add to that spot, not ideal but better than trying to add a 3c in December when you realize Kuraly can't handle the position
