Lamarche is still under contract. I don't think Kulak pass waiver after last year. I doubt Koberstein get signed even to a AHL deal.

VET Forward-Evans-Suzuki
Peca-Poehling-VET forward
Teasdale-Vejdemo-Hudon,McCarron ,Audette or similar FA with less than 260 pro games played
Verbeek-Jevpalovs-Weise/Deslauriers
Weise/Deslauriers and a guy who has played less than 260 pro games with AHL/NHL experience

Ouellet-Fleury
Alzner-Brook
Olofsson-Sklenica
Lamarche and a guy with less than 260 games played, priority being a PP specialist

McNiven
Primeau

Unless you can make Alzner, Weise, or Deslauriers disappear this is about all you can do, with the AHL vet rule. You can dress only 5 who have played over 320 pro games, and one who has played over 260 games which is what Peca is, having played 263 games. All the leftover signed guys and any new ones go to the ECHL till injuries and Habs callups start.

If you want to win games the team needs to spend money to get quality vets and support players, and stop trying to appease the local crowd by signing ECHL quality local guys and former Q players, if you feel the need, sign them and put them in the ECHL to develop. It takes serious depth to compete over a full season in the AHL as they found out last year, and you need to start the season with a much better full roster than they have had in the last years.

Being forced to play guys like Weise and Deslauriers eat the spots you had for guys like Pezzetta and Waked so they go to the ECHL. On defense Alzner takes the spot of a vet PP specialist like TJ Brennan so you need to try and find a less experienced one.

If you sign Walford and Tyszka they need to play everyday in the ECHL to develop. The same for a goalie like Harvey. It may even be necessary to do the same for Primeau in the first part of the season, and sign a veteran back-up for McNiven so he and Primeau can play more than a 50/50 split.

Wow you guys really think Poehling will be in Laval next year? I say not a chance.

It's only 1 game. Top 6 AHL would be better than 4th line NHL for him IMO. If he makes the NHL top 9 sure (which would mean one of Danault/Lehkonen/Drouin/Byron probably gets traded for some LD).

I know this is being said over and over around here but I don't think it's always true and I especially not in Poehling's case. He's a sound 200 ft player and he's already physically ready for the big league. The rest is being accustomed to the speed of the game and gaining experience, stuff you can't really do in the A. I say play him on the 4th line to start with the likes of Weal and Byron. I think it would be a perfect situation for him.

With Folin signing (and who knows if Benn will be extended), the Habs may just be ensuring that if Juulsen isn't ready to crack the Habs out of camp, he can start in Laval.

Imagine Laval's RD if Juulsen starts there: Juulsen, Brook, Fleury.

let's say mtl - laval d-corp :

[UFA] Weber(C)
Kulak Petry(A)
[UFA] [UFA]
Reilly Folin

Mete Juulsen(A)
Romanov Fleury
Ouellet(C) Brooks
Scklenicka Lernout
Alzner

With the third unit been totally open I would try to force a competition between the laval top 4d at least 3/4 of the season (to be ready for playoff push), until then i would hire young guy ufa or trade for rfa like Joel Edmundson with picks or Byron.

Juulsen been paired with Mete to lead Laval to the series could definitely be a boost and if habs do not make the cut for the playoff next year, well the young crew can definitely have their own run in ahl series. That's what i call a win-win situation for them actually. With Bouchard things are going to be pretty something if he can have this lineup in hands.

If he can also have a forward group like that :

Vejdemo Poehling Suzuki
Audette Belzile Grenier
Jevpalovs Teasdale Evans
Deslauriers Verbeek Alain
Pezzetta Shinkaruk Waked

with our 2 young goalies

Primeau
McNiven

i guess he can produce few miracles. Am I off the chart or is it realistic to preach such vision? Should Habs shops for d-man this summer??

Evans on the 3rd line?
yeah but not in a concern of depth chart spot. On ly to give teasdale and jevpalovs a good scorer to see what they can bring on the table. the second unit could be our 3rd unit too depend on how well the evans unit can perform, and since they are in laval a french connection line is also a wink to their culture!

Poehling in Laval for 20 ish games makes sense, it did wonder for Mete and he didn't even stay that long. Don't forget we have a ton of depth up front, which is a good thing. I doubt Bergevin starts the year with Weise, Hudon, Peca, Deslauriers, etc ALL in Laval

Then Poehling comes up around Christmas when we have injuries or when Bergevin decides to get rid of some dead wood, depending on who plays well or not

Don’t forget Fleury who had a good rookie season and has one complete season of AHL experience

He was our best player in the AHL first year, why wouldn't you play him on the first line he earned it and I'm sure he will be better because he probably learned alot. This is a good way to ruin prospects
