Sad thing is at 54 points, we currently sit 4 points out of a wildcard spot (and PIT has 2 games in hand). Meanwhile, out West, DAL and COL are currently IN wildcard spots with 52 points each...:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

EDIT: We need to basically win 2 out of every 3 games to sniff (possibly) a playoff spot...21-11-0 (or a variation like 19-9-4)

74 points with 19 games to go. St. Louis at home and @Panthers back2back before a brutal 13 game stretch, including 2 vs. Pittsburgh. If 96 is the arbitrary cutoff, 11-9, or 10-8-2 record gets you there. Beating Montreal, Columbus and Pittsburgh x 2 would help.

'Course, this could be a year where none of the 4 teams hunting for 3 spots falters, and a 97-98 point team is left out (meanwhile, out West....).

This model (IIRC) was designed with the idea that 96 points gets you in the playoffs and the 2 bonus games shouldn't really be needed. Even with all of the teams battling for playoff spots playing each other a lot down the strecth, I think there is a good chance someone gets to 96 and misses. In addition, there were like 5 OT games last night and if that continues that will inflate the points even more. Athletic's Dom Luszczyszyn has projected points at:

Capitals: 101.1
Islanders: 99.8
Penguins: 98.8
Hurricanes: 98.1
Canadians: 95.7
Blue Jackets: 95.2

A stupid hot run by Philly could make it even more interesting (Think Ottawa's run with Hamburgler hot). Highly unlikely, but no one is as streaky as Philly. 11-3-2 and gets them to 96 points.
