It's remarkable that not a single Canada West team has made the Final in those 4 years.

Agreed - Fredericton has not been nice to CW Teams - neither was Moncton.

2003 - #1 ALB lose to SFX in 2OT playing Thu afternoon. Daum was upset that the #1 seed had to play the first day in the afternoon. The reasoning was you're suppose to win and get Friday as a rest. As for the afternoon - UNB chose to play Friday night and they were in the opposite pool. They beat York, but SFX also beats York and advance.
ALB is 1-1 and win Bronze on Sunday over UNB
Extra Spot when to OUA (Lakehead)

2004 - #1 ALB win their game on Thursday night and get a rest on Friday. They lose to UNB in the Semi-final on Saturday in OT after being up 4-2 in the third then down 5-4 before forcing OT at 5-5.
ALB is 1-1 and lose the Bronze on Sunday to DAL
Extra Spot went to AUS (DAL)

2007 - #2 USask lose to UNB on Thursday afternoon. Then lose 3-2 on Friday to UQTR. UNB wins 6-0 over UQTR and win on Sunday in OT over UdeM.
USask end 0-2.
Extra Sport went to AUS (SFX)

2008 - #2 ALB lose 2-1 to UdeM on Day-1 but win big (7-1) over McG on Friday and with a McG 3-0 win on Saturday over UdeM, ALB advance on GF/GA Diff. They win 3-2 over UNB.
ALB is 1-1 and are the first team to advance to a final with a 1-1 record and are the first 1-1 team to win Gold.
- #5 USask play on Friday and win 4-1 over Brock. They lose to UNB in the Semi-final 4-0.
USask end 1-1.
Extra Spot went to CW (USask)

2011 - #3 ALB don't play on Day-1 and wait for the loser of SFX/McG.
ALB loses to SFX (in the afternoon) and then loses to McG on Saturday
ALB end 0-2.
- #6 CAL loses to UNB with 4.1sec left on Thursday then lose to Western on Friday and are 0-2. UNB wins over Western to advance to finals and wins over McGill.
CAL ends 0-2.
Extra Spot went to CW (Calgary)

2012 - #3 USask play on Day-2 in the afternoon and lose to UdeM 5-1 who had lost to McGill. They(UdeM) needed a big win to improve their GF/GA numbers and hope USask bounce back against McG. USask bounce back with a 4-3 win but do not advance (McG advance with a +2 while UdeM was +1 and USask was -3).
USask end 1-1.
Extra Spot went to OUA (UQTR)

So, in six(6) tournaments CW is 5-11 in pool play. Advanced to one(1) final - which ALB won and have one(1) bronze (also Alberta).

GOLD
AUS (3) - 2004, 2007 & 2011
OUA (2) - 2003 & 2012
CW (1) - 2008

SILVER
AUS (4) - 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008
OUA (2) - 2011 & 2012
CW (0)

Fredericton in particular has not been good for CW teams. It might be the travel - it's cheaper to fly into Moncton and bus 2hrs to Fredericton which makes for a long trip.

AUS playoffs

The island forces game 3 on Sunday, with a 7-2 win at home vs SMU. Trevor Steinburgh was not on the bench, as it was mentioned that he was back in Ontario tending to family matters.
The winner gets a date with #1 ranked UNB in a second round best of five.
UNB is 18-0 on home ice this season, entering playoffs.:help:
X deals Moncton the death blow, the match with Acadia should be a dandy. Acadia, has had several disappointing playoff performances in recent years. Will this match up with playoff proven X be a another one of those dissapointments???

Heartbreaking loss for UPEI tonight...game tied 1-1 in the 3rd period and they were all over the Huskies, then SMU scores two quick ones to make it 3-1. Panthers come back to tie it up, but Garlent scores with 32 seconds left to give SMU the win.

UQTR eliminates Carleton again, setting up 2nd round showdown with McGill.

We know there will be at least two new teams at the UCup this year with Western and Carleton out.

What's the playoff history between CU/UQTR? I assume the Ravens have never eliminated the Patriotes?

Pretty Much - the years they don't meet UQTR, they lose to McGill.

2008 - CAR loses in 1st Round to McG 2-0 (Visitor / 3-5 & 1-5)
2009 - CAR loses in 2nd Round to UQTR 2-1 (Visitor / 4-2, 2-1, 5-4 OT)
2010 - CAR loses in 2nd Round to McG 2-0
2011 - CAR loses in 2nd Round to UQTR 2-1 (Visitor / 2-4, 4-1 & 0-4)
2012 - CAR loses in 2nd Round to UQTR 2-1 (Visitor / 1-8, 5-1 & 2-3 OT2)
2013 - CAR loses in East Finals to UQTR 2-1 (Visitor / 4-1, 0-2 & 1-2 OT4) - no Bronze game (OUA only had tickets to UCup this season)
2014 - CAR loses in East Finals to McG 2-1 (Home / 5-2, 2-3 & 1-2) - Win OUA Bronze 7-4 over Lakehead
2015 - CAR loses in 2nd Round to UQTR 2-0 (Home / 1-2 OT, 3-4 OT)
2016 - CAR loses in East Finals to UQTR 2-0 (Visitor / 1-4 & 3-6) - Win OUA Bronze 4-1 over Guelph
2017 - CAR loses in 1st Round to UQTR 2-1 (Home / 5-2, 2-4 & 2-3)

There were 2 years where they won game one(1) on the road but couldn't win game 2 at home.
They have lost 5 game 3s (3 in OT).

Could someone explain or direct me to a link as to how the teams are picked for the Nationals? I understand the league champions of course but how are the other teams pick, wild cards? Thanks.

3.1 TEAMS
The participating teams shall be:
 OUA Representative
 RSEQ Representative (Participates in the OUA Sport Conference – East
Division)
 Canada West Representative
 Atlantic University Sport Representative
 Host (University of New Brunswick)
 Assigned berth rotating (CWUAA)
 Assigned berth rotating (OUA)
 Assigned berth rotating (AUS)

Basically, the three conference finalists, the hosts, and the OUA bronze medalists make up the 8-team field. Expect the AUS to play a bronze medal series/game this year as well, since UNB is likely to use one of the two AUS' finalist spots.

STFX vs Acadia is the toughest series to call. The Axemen have the better record but X has beaten them four times this year and have underachieved a bit this season. I am going with the Axemen in five but it is not a confident pick.

UNB vs SMU isn't so tough to call. I watched the Huskies against the Panthers and their defense is very porous right now due to injuries. Goaltending is average although both are capable. Have to take the VReds in a sweep.

As Adam listed
- Conference Champions (3). AUS, CW and OUA
- OUA (Queen's Cup) Runner-up(1). The OUA has 19 teams, so the two division champions advance. The Queen's Cup determines who is the OUA Champion. The runner-up, who is from the opposite division, gets a lower seed).
- AUS Runner-up(1)
- CW Runner-up(1)
- OUA Bronze Medalist(1) - Single Elimination game between the OUA Semi-Final losers hosted by the team with the best overall record.
- Host (1)

In the event the host has already qualified, that conference will provide an additional team. In the case of CW and AUS hosts, a best of 3 series is played between the Semi-Final losers in parallel with the Division Championship series. In the case of an OUA host, the Bronze Medal loser would attend (4th place team).

So - each team has to play it's way into the tournament with the exception of the Host. When the Host qualifies - their replacement has to play their way in. There are no selections made by 'invitation'.
