Had to vote for Nicky but Siemens and Anderson were close.

It's gotta be Siemens at this point, right? I mean, he could be on the third pair now and we still aren't sure of Boikov's or Nantel's NHL potential (or any of the others'). To me, it would be more of a [pleasant] surprise for Boikov to be in the NHL and Nantel looks to be a 4th liner with a 3rd liner ceiling. Siemens being a third pairing defenseman trumps those two.

This is where Anderson slots in to me. I don't think he is a likely NHL player, but he should be a great AHL D and he has about as much upside as anybody left in the system (I could see a debate for Leivermann).

I think Olhaver should be added. I get his year in NA was absolutely terrible, but he did well last season returning to Rogle and will get a good chance to carve out a role next season. If he continues to progress, he might be worth a contract in a year or two.

What makes you think Siemens would do better on the third pairing than Boikov? Siemens is the better shut down guy atm, but their shutdown abilities aren't what'll keep either one from an NHL career, it's their puck skills. And Boikov has a lot more talent in that area than Dunk.

Sure Dunk could become a good third pairing PK specialist, but atm he's still just a great AHL shutdown guy. I don't think there's a big gap between Siemens, Boikov or Anderson; but the young Russian seems to have the best hands of the lot...which is why in my eyes he's most likely to actually stick in a third pairing shutdown role at the NHL level.

It's Boikov or Nantel for me. I agree that Boikov isn't even that much further out from Siemens in respect to getting a chance. They liked him in SA, Boikov got a good deal of minutes most of the time. Siemens is tough to sort, he's that AHL lifer (until something changes), just eligible because of his later birthday. I just don't know what to do with guys like that. Like Felix Girard could get on the poll because I could see him getting a callup at some point too. Or Jesse Graham. I wouldn't put it past the Avs to use those guys.

Siemens is what he is, there's no more potential for him to unlock. At least Nantel and Boikov are on an upward trend and haven't stopped developing yet, which is why IMO they and a few others should move ahead of Siemens.

I still say they just need to play him and see what happens instead of going out and getting another Gelinas/Goloubef/Bodnarchuk to run around and do nothing of consequence, but he's likely nothing more than a fringe 6/7 guy at this point. Still, it'd be kinda nice to actually KNOW that rather than just speculate.

If Siemens is done because of his age/draft class then Compher and Bigras better hurry the f' up.

Guenin immediately got PP time over Dunk in the AHL. Hopefully that helps some of y'all put into context just how poor Siemens' puck skills are.

IMO, it's only a technicality that Siemens is still eligible thanks to the September birthday. I'd still rather vote for magic beans like Kvaca and Leivermann over our biggest modern bust.

I voted Anderson.

Our boards basically instantly labelled this guy a bust simply because the style of player he is. But he's got as much upside as anyone else left at this point. He's good at the role he plays and know his limits quite well. I think he's the most likely player of those left to reach his upside even if it isn't high but again nobody else left has high upside either.

If Girard was available I'd probably have selected him as I think he could carve out an NHL career as a 4th liner. But everyone else is career AHL at this point IMO. The only exception being Lievermann but he's so raw right now that you really cant even begin to project him yet kind of like Clurman last year.

Looking at that list though, it's pretty impressive compared to even just 1 year ago. Our 2nd round pick from just last year who didn't have a bad draft + 1 year by any means, isn't even in the Top 10 anymore. And the guy we just drafted it what was basically a late 3rd round pick(And he was projected to go higher) just barely cracks the Top 15.

It's a deep group we have.
