The problem is the old boys like Carp said the same type of stuff after the McIlrath pick. The appeal to authority is one of the most annoying logical fallacies there is and hockey fans seem to be especially fond of it.

The Canadiens traded Ryan McDonagh for Scott Gomez. Was that a smart trade for the Habs because their "scouts who know so much about hockey" said it was OK?

That's a stupid statement. So fans should just have no opinions at all on anything. AV likes Tanner Glass? Fans are mentally feeble to challenge an NHL coach's opinion. We had the 7th. We could have gone down a few to take Andersson later if we phoned around the early teens and got an extra pick. The 7th took a lot to get today. Fans want value.

He had 19 in 42 in 2016-17 which is the season we just played.

Where is this magical season you're seeing that I'm not?

19 in 42 is good production in a Swedish league when you consider his age. Someone posted Backstrom's stats and they were only slightly better.

I admit to not knowing about these guys as I have not paid attention since the Rangers started trading their draft picks and we had a low number this year until the trade.

Saying that, I've learned to trust the scouts, we all have favorites but our favs don't pan out as much as we'd like to admit.

The guys we were screaming for us to draft are being passed by the rest of these teams, the exception was the Minnesota kid which not many here wanted.

Calm down and let the draft play out, wait 4 years then look at how wrong we and teams were on alot of these guys.

he was 10-15 and was rising fast late.

the more you look at this kid, the more you will come around.

this kid has fewer holes than any player outside the top 5 and when glass went, this was the pick.

the guys left when we stepped up weren't rated higher than lias on our board.

as i was saying, this is a guy theyve liked. he does everything well.

anyone saying he's a 4th liner or whatever is dead wrong.

Good post. I hope you are right.

We didnt need a gamer. We have had plenty of those.

We needed talent. Scoring talent. Pathetic

lol what? All playoffs long all we heard was how CK, Miller, Hayes - all talented guys - were competing hard enough.

Jesus this thread is insane.

The scouts who know so much about hockey thought Girardi was better than Stralman.

Nothing dumber than Rick Carpinello

My problem now is they have no D and no centers so now they're gonna look to free agency to plug the holes as per the failed NYR past..No Bueno :shakehead

Prospect Breakdown
Andersson, who has played in the SHL for the last year and a half, has one of the higher floors among projected first round forwards in his draft class. At first glance his numbers aren’t going to jump off the page at you, but when you take into account an 18-year-old playing in one of Europe’s best leagues in limited minutes, his output is very solid. He was an important piece to HV71’s run to the SHL Championship this past season.

At 5’11” and 200 pounds, the young forward has the ability to play both center and wing if necessary. He may not be the tallest prospect, but he is well built, and has already been acclimated to playing with adults in Sweden where he has found offensive success. His play at the international level has been impressive, as he has put up good numbers at the U18 and U20 levels.

The Swedish pivot is actually one of the oldest players in this draft, with a mid-October birth date, and his play matches his advanced age. Andersson possesses a mature, two-way game and is a extremely low risk selection when it comes to being an eventual NHL player.

Scouting Analysis
When watching Andersson play, he does everything at an above-average level. He is smart in all three zones, has good skating ability, and has showcased a good, accurate shot. He is noticeable in his ability to win one-on-one puck battles, has a high motor when it comes to both forechecking and puck retrieval, and is committed to the defensive side of the puck.

Andersson regularly makes the right play, showcasing a high aptitude for the game by rarely taking unnecessary risks. He is advanced in his ability to carry the puck, and is a good possession player. There are some questions about his overall offensive upside, but there isn’t much doubt that he will be a productive two-way player on an NHL roster for some time.

Final Thoughts
Taking Andersson at 12 may be a little high, but there is value in the pick. Although the reward may not be as high as some other prospects from an offensive level, Andersson provides less risk than some of the other forwards in his tier. He seems to be a perfect fit on a playoff contender, slotting in on the second or third line.

He can certainly be a valuable piece to an organization, but if you are willing to take a risk on a higher offensive upside player, there may be better players available at 12th overall. Whoever ends up with Andersson will be quite happy, because he is the type of safe, effective player who a coach can put out in any situation and know what they are going to get.

It's more than the player. It's about value.

It's about the conbination of events that led us here.

I can already see HF NYR turning on the rationalization switch. The history speaks for itself.

It takes 2 to tango. Maybe we wanted to trade down but no one was biting.
