Who was the better? Crosby in the 2017 playoffs or Ovechkin in the 2018 playoffs?

Close, but Sid. The goals are nice, but scoring was up this year. The regular season was the highest scoring in awhile and it carried over into the playoffs. 5.90 GPG this year compared to 5.16 last year; 18 players PPG or better who played 10 games or more this year, compared to 5 last year; and the Caps averaged 3.58 GPG this year compared to the Pens averaging 3.08 last year. Also, while Guentzel was great, Kuznetsov was better in terms of linemates.

Ovechkin. But at least this one is relatively close. -16 vs -18 is not.

How about scoring these playoffs vs last playoffs?

It's only one year completely irrelevant. I'd say they r dead even. Crosby just creates way more scoring chances . The reason this is close is because ovi is the best goal scorer of all time along with lemieux. And finishes
. Crosbys face offs and ovis physicality are a wash. Both are leaders another wash.

Also Crosby had 21 in 12 this year

But it's not irrelevant. It doesn't matter if it's one year, what matters is the environments they played in. People adjust for regular seasons all the time and seem to ignore the playoffs

Ovechkin has really evolved this year. Remember when he was younger and used to force plays, go 1-on-3, get neutralized on the rush? He did this very rarely in these playoffs, making the simple play, showing great awareness, making timely and accurate passes and letting the puck come to him.

To be honest I had doubts about him in the past, but Ovy showed a rare learning curve in his 30s.

He’s not the dynamic play driver he once was but I agree he has modified his game and become a smarter player and thus he remains incredibly effective at this age
