My guess is they'll start him in Wichita(ECHL) and if he blows the doors off move him to Bakersfield(AHL). They've already got Starett and one of Montoya/LB/Ellis in Bakersfield and for him I think it's best to get the most game action possible. It'd be similar to what Shelbyville did with Tyler Parsons this year.
What is the difference between echl and whl?
Honest question, I have no clue. I thought that whl was a better league but with an age limit (or similar) whilst echl was where you buried low end prospects. I am obviously wrong about that

The WHL is a junior league, so only players 21 and under from Western Canada and a certain area of the USA can play there(along with players from the CHL Import Draft).

The ECHL is the third tier professional league. NHL > AHL > ECHL. It's not a good sign if a forward or defenseman prospect end up in the ECHL, but often times goalie prospects will play a year there before moving up to the AHL.

Makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

I wonder if Skinner ends up back in the WHL just to stagger him and Dylan Wells.

For the longest time I thought that's what they'd do, but with how good Skinner has been down the stretch and in the playoffs I think he's ready for the pros. I'm thinking Wells will end up back in the OHL for his overage season, which will stagger them like you said but Wells is the guy who would probably benefit more from more junior time.

I don't think Wells would really get much out of another year of junior. Especially since Peterborough looks to be pretty rough again next season. It may seem like he had a bad year going by his numbers, but he was on a worse team and SV% took a pretty big hit league-wide. There was only something like eight goalies in the entire league who played 30+ games with a SV% over .900.

The Oilers are in kind of a tough spot with both of them already having 150-200 junior games under their belt.

I wonder if they'd have them split time in the ECHL and hope at least one of them works their way up to he AHL quickly.

I guess loaning one to start for another ECHL team is a possibly too.

What is the actual quality like in ECHL though? That's something I've wondered for a long time. How would it compare to other leagues? Could a CHL team beat an ECHL team? How does the canadian university league (USports) compare?

I'll be the first to admit I've never seen an ECHL game in my life. But I can't help but think it's probably a pretty good league. Filled with guys who were good junior or college players but who weren't good enough to play in the AHL/NHL. But they're bigger, stronger more mature than when they were in junior. I could be wrong of course, but if I had to guess your average ECHL team beats your average CHL team more often than not.

I had a friend who played WHL then CIS (Canadian University), and from his experiences, I'd say CIS is better than WHL. The majority of WHLers go onto play in the CIS, with a few going to ECHL, AHL or NHL. The top CIS teams are better than WHL teams, being older, more mature and developed. The top CIS'ers can move onto the ECHL or even AHL.

So with that in mind, I agree with Spawn (I also have never seen ECHL), my guess would be.

ECHL > CIS > WHL

Not that CIS has anything to do with Skinner, but helps to understand the entire system.

It's a shame they're not televising any of the WHL final. I guess we're not in the centre of the universe.

If the Bronoces win tonight, it will be interesting to see who gets MVP. It will either be Skinner or Gawdin
