Which people were hyping him up? I certainly never saw that.

You're right, I can't find the posts. I found a few posts, it was more that we were worried that he'd walk after showing promise. I think it was the SI article that started hyping him up.

Are you ready to call Lucia a bust after one injury-shortened pro season?

No. But after a very unspectacular career at Notre Dame, I'd say yes.

He calls Granlund a bust because he was moved to wing, so why not?

Because a 25 goal scoring left winger has the same value as a 25 goal scoring center. And a first line center has the same value as a first line left winger. It's not like we tried to develop Granlund into a top 6 center or anything and that isn't one of the reasons why we drafted him. Him being a center had nothing to do with his rankings OR why we picked him or Kunin or JEE. I mean centers are so easy to get.

im surprised nobody is talking about mike reilly? hes an rfa do we keep him or let him go?

his name has come up a few times in recent days. Could be trade bait, but he was qualified. I doubt he wants another season in Des Moines though so might be holding off on signing for that reason.

I'm personally not big on him anymore. Turns 24 in a couple weeks and hasn't proven to be much more than an Adam Clendening type. Lacks strength and speed for the NHL game. Does a few things well but if we're talking a power play specialist it seems sad that Dumba, Brodin, Scandella and Spurgeon wouldn't get first crack at added minutes.

I think Reilly might be dealt once we get better defensive prospect depth, or we might just let him walk and get an opportunity with a team that doesn't have our quality of D. IMO, his future with our team is as a call-up. He's simply too much of a liability in our own zone to be a regular on the team, and his offensive abilities aren't good enough to make up for his defense.

He's underwhelming and one-dimensional, whereas the rest of our D, for the most part, are all good two-way guys.

To be fair to Reilly, when he was called up last year he was on a paired with Dumba. That pairing was awful.

Give him another year, see if he develops any more. He's waivers exempt for another ~24 NHL games this year. If he doesn't progress enough trade his rights somewhere. Anything we get in return for him is found money.

Wow, just looked back at the 2014 draft. The 6 games Tuch played last season could end up being the only games played for the Wild from the entire draft class:
Tuch (18oa)-6 games/traded
Belpeido (80)- going back for his Sr. year of college becomes a UFA in 2018
Kahkonen (109)- in Finland, becomes a UFA in 2018
Faith (139)-already gone
Sjalin (160)- becomes a UFA in 2018, not worth signing
Lang (167) - under contract, ECHL last year
Duke (169)- already gone
Jenys (199)- under contract, ECHL last year

Am I the only one thinking it's weird Kähkönen hasn't been signed to ELC yet?

I'm not sure why Kahkonen wouldn't get an ELC. Maybe some info will come out, the Wild still have plenty of contract space but there's no rush either.

Belpedio has a rare skillset for this prospect group. Had a tough junior season but he could still sign with the Wild.

So it's still wait and see time. Losing Tuch is tough but it was a decent draft. Sjalin's brother was just drafted in fact by the Rangers I think - probably some skill in the family that made it a worthwhile option.

I'm not complaining about a 6th rounder not panning out in Sjalin. If Belpedio and Kahkonen do end up signing the draft looks okay.

Wild have been trying to sign Belpedio for past 3 years. He's going back for Sr year and I would say that he is one of top 3 - 4 NCAA Dmen on USA hockey radar for Olympic team.
Probably will go UFA route next summer.

I'm just hoping the Wild will sign him after the college season ends. There isn't any RD AHL depth to contend with, and an open roster spot on the bottom pair RD. I wonder if that went into GMCF's thinking with not resigning Folin?

If Belpedio walks, it's embarrassing. There's nothing stopping him from jumping to this team in 2 years and being AT LEAST the #3 RHD.

What are the chances him and Greenway both walk?

If Granny, Nino, and Zucker all sign ~5 year contracts; I think Greenway walks.
If 2 of Granny, Nino, and Zucker sign ~5 year contracts and Kaprizov signs with the team; I think Greenway walks.

I wouldn't blame him if he did. There isn't any room for him to play above the 4th line in the near future.

Edit.
Just looked at the July 8-13 Dev camp roster: Greenway is on it, Belpedio isn't. If that means anything. We'll also get to a look at Salituro from the Schroeder trade.

I hope neither walks and we can trade them instead. I reckon there will be shuffles in the line-up soon, plus Greenway is still quite raw.

As for Belpedio, still too early to say. He might sign, would be lovely if he did. We have the #3 RD spot potentially open for him, if he beats other guys for it. If he doesn't, he isn't exactly old so he can play a year or two in the A.

Wouldn't be the end of the world if they walk (and they do have their own careers to consider), but the optimist in me sees at least one (if not both) hanging around unless the situation becomes unbearable. Plus we can't afford to keep losing assets for nothing.

Doesn't mean much. NCAA players have to pay their own way. It's common for them to miss.
