Chicago signs Sterling to SPC

It's quite surprising that it took this long.
----------------------------------------------

Along with Sterling, Acolatse and Hennessy were the last remaining players who had been on PTO contracts since training camp.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed goaltender Anthony Peters to an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of the 2017-18 season through the 2018-2019 campaign.

Peters, 26, has recorded a 7-4-2 record this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and a 2.83 goals against average and .900 save percentage over the course of two separate professional tryout agreements with the Penguins. Peters began his second PTO with a six-game winning streak that spanned Dec. 29, 2017 – Jan. 17, 2018. The Blyth, Ontario native registered the first shutout of his AHL career on Jan. 24 against the Hershey Bears.

Is the AHL trade deadline March 6th this year?

It's next monday!

Jim O'Brien (Belleville), John Muse (Lehigh Valley), Chris Breen (Providence) and Cody Goloubef (Stockton) have been released from their AHL SPCs and signed to NHL contract for the remainder of the season.

O'Brien's new deal also covers the 2018-2019 season.

As mentioned above Carter Camper (Cleveland) and Derek Army (Milwaukee) have been traded to Tucson.

I believe the second year of Camper's contract remains valid.

The contract is only valid for this season but the partnership between Mantha and the Crunch could last longer.

The main reason Gergo Nagy didn't play for Chicago is because... he's currently ineligible to play in the AHL.

The same situation happened to the Laval Rocket a few days ago when they failed to sign David Vallorani to a PTO.
Vallorani had always been among the top scorers in the ECHL since completing a four-year stint at UMass-Lowell of the NCAA in 2012, yet never had a shot to compete at the AHL level. Players always talk about just continuously working hard, waiting for an opportunity, and this was seemingly it for Vallorani, the big break he’s been working toward. Until an obscure AHL rule brought it all crashing down.

It happened as morning skate was about to get under way on Friday. “I met all the guys in the dressing room, spoke with [Head Coach Sylvain Lefebvre] briefly to go over a few things, and I was taping up my stick, about to get dressed to hit the ice. The coach called me back and says ‘Yeah, the League called, and says that you’re ineligible to play.’ I was kinda confused by that. He didn’t really know much about it either. Nobody really knew what was going on.

“I got on the phone with Beast coach Colin Chaulk, who was sort of aware of the rule, but didn’t think of it. I got back to the hotel and called the PHPA [Professional Hockey Players’ Association]. Larry Landon [Executive Director of the PHPA] called the AHL, who informed him that the cutoff deadline was February 1st [for me to sign an AHL agreement].”

The rule is as follows, explained by Jason Chaimovitch, Vice President of Communications of the American Hockey League:

Nagy started the season in Romania playing in the Erste Liga before joining the Quad City Mallards (ECHL) in December.

It isn't mentioned in the article extract above but Laval and Chicago have seemingly broken another rule with these "ghost signings" ...

Is this for 2018-19 as well?

I believe so! For now, he can't leave the WHL until his team is eliminated.

So no action today?

There is always little movement on this day but I don't recall a AHL "trade" deadline where no deals were done

The "biggest" move of the day?

Kessy and MacIntyre have a combined total of 6 games played in the AHL this season

WRT Cuda's Weinger.. appears to be SPC for this season. (only?) He has been "loaned" back to his WHL team per AHL transactions.

Three college graduate were signed to three different contracts today (ATO, PTO, SPC)...

Hopefully things will be cleared out and we'll get to know who is signed for next season and who got signed for the rest of the season.
