Seriously idiotic moves if we land either Alzner or Kunitz. You guys thought Garrison was bad this last year and you're pissed and annoyed at Callahan? We don't need Kunitz here unless he's signing for 850k and ready to play on the 4th. And I'm not sure how long we'd last collectively before we want to lynch Alzner either. Going to be totally pissed if $1 is spent on either of these guys.

Also, haven't seen you guys mention it but Boyle seems to really want to come back here. I'd take him in a heartbeat. Dumont was fine on the 4th...but he has some poor offensive instincts compared to Boyle. Boyle can at least provide 10-15 goals. I'd rather have him back here at 2m, sign Marleau and explore a trade for a top 4 defenseman and call it an offseason.

I'd rather let our prospects compete for the spot. Cirelli, Stephens, maybe even Howden. Assuming we stay even reasonably healthy, Dumont will probably only be used as a faceoff specialist. I kind of like keeping him around for that. It's one area where he's (by all appearances anyway) legitimately better than Boyle. Anyone know what he was like on the draw in the AHL? Smallish sample size with TB, but he was clicking at 55%.

Agreed on Kunitz particularly. I can imagine him looking a lot worse outside of Pittsburgh.

JUST SPECULATION FROM MEDIA, but The Hockey Writers have an article up that suggests Shattenkirk on a short-term contract would fit with Tampa. But who the heck thinks Shattenkirk is going to go for a short contract??

Throw enough money at him and he might.

I've been wondering about this. Given our specific needs, could we just throw tons of money at players to address our weaknesses, to make them forget about the term? It's the term that kills us every time.

Never know if SFY is about to go way outside the box.

Going to vomit in my mouth if Kunitz wears a Lightning sweater.

Too old I'd pass on Kunitz is good days are behind him! Sure would have loved him three years ago. Honestly go for Brian Boyle and Michael stone 👠Both won't kill us on term or cap hits! And that gives us more depth.

Yzerman can't do that and then ask for the core to take less to keep the team together.

I like Alzner as well but wasn't there discussions of him getting as much as Shattenkirk? Then no freakin' way.

We should never give 6+ years to non-elite players. Players like Shattenkirk could be fine at 4 maybe 5 years tops but why should we give $6.5m to someone who would be a PP specialist on our team and perhaps add to our defensive depth. If we win the cup it's all fine but if we won't then it will look kinda meh to give Shattenkirk a term AND money deal (if he changes his mind on coming here).

Oh please not Kunitz. I'd rather see Vrbata return than Kunitz signing here. (Note: I do not want Vrbata either.)

Any interest in the non-qualified RFAs that are being dumped in to unrestricted free agency? Christian Folin stood out as the most interesting. Think he could beat out Sustr and challenge Dotchin at a similar pay. A bunch more wings with warts might fit as bottom 6 depth for cheap. Guys like Chiasson, Bennett, Pirri, Caron, Grigorenko, Etem, or Yakupov? Age-wise they fit our current core better than some of the washed up vets on the UFA market.

Also;
Curious if either Johnson or Palat will exercise arbitration rights. Would rather not have too much cap tied up until the arbitration hearings this year. If both go to arbitration that is a potentially wide variance of what they 'could' get that has to be budgeted for on the top end until actually finalized. Ideally, Yzerman inks all of Johnson, Palat, Dotchin, and Koekkoek this week and knows exactly where his cap stands July 1st.

Etem on a 2 way, too good for the AHL but not good enough for the NHL.

Grigorenko I'd love as a reclamation project but he doesn't show up to games consistently.

Why did we not give Blujus a qualifying offer yesterday?

Too much depth at RD? Or clearing space for D. Raddysh?

EDIT: The Raddysh situation is confusing, because he signed an AHL contract with Chicago's affiliate. I don't think his rights are owned by any NHL team at the moment, but Chicago would make sense due to the DeBrincat connection.

I think this week he gets dotchin and koekkoek signed but not palat and Johnson. They will get down days before arbitration.

I'd rather get Justin Williams than Kunitz, myself. Just curious about what we thought about him at this point.

I do sort of think we go for a cup winning vet. Williams has 3. Callahan is the only forward in his 30's. Williams is 35.

Both PIT and CHI value older depth D. Chicago with Oduya, Campbell, and Rosival (although it didn't get them anywhere). Pittsburgh with Hainsey, and at least bringing in Streit.

Coburn at 32 is the oldest we've got. Yet Sustr gets re-signed.

Not sure why resigning Sustr isn't a no brainer to people? On the right it's Stralman then not much. Dotchin had a good stretch but prior to that wasn't even that good of an AHL player, Blujus wasn't given a qualifying offer and Thomas was an AHL rookie. Sustr is an experienced player who can play tough minutes. With Dotchin not being too proven and our prospects a year or so out we need a stop gap which Sustr is and at times he can be more than that. Only a 1 year deal so we most likely lose him next year if Dotchin is the real deal.

id like vrbata myself jw is also ok depends if we can give either one a team happy deal

always liked grigorenko and might work out on third line williams or vrbata could play top two lines and would be nice additions

not sure on grigs two way play pirri's knock was always his defense more then anything so no interest hudler would be a good deal if he could stay healthy :(

folin is wildcard already 26 half a season in nhl so not sure how good he is etc..

kris versteeg might be able to get on cheap

Vrbata is a wreck defensively. With our ongoing emphasis on two-way play (see Drouin) I don't think he's someone Y is looking at.
