WTF... Joe Colborne not qualified by the Flames?

Burke said something like "we are not paying a man who only showed up for the last month" a few weeks ago... So seeing him walk from Colborne makes sense

Colborne had 44 points! WTF? He set a career high and cant even get a QO lol

Smith-Pelly had 25 points in 64 games. 13 in 18 in New Jerset

It's a risk, but the Flames can still sign Colborne. I believe the reason they didn't qualify him is because Brad Treliving wasn't comfortable with a potential arbitration reward.

That can't be right. His QO would have been something like 1.5 mil.

Edit: here's the explanation of the rational, they expect him to cash in at arbitration, but not so high as to give the flames walk away rightys:

Joe Colborne: Colborne scored many, many goals last year. In March and April, when the games didn't matter. And he rode a sky-high shooting percentage. He's bound for a Lance Bouma-style crash, and he'll get a big raise if he goes to arbitration. But he's not going to make enough in arbitration to give the Flames walk-away rights. Unless Colborne settles with the Flames for a teeny, tiny amount – like, sub $2 million – he's going to hamstring the team's cap space. (If he gets an award in the Bouma vicinity of $2.2 million, the Flames will have very little cap space remaining for anything else.)

Colborne and Smith-Pelly can both be solid additions to our 3rd line RW spot. Idk if a vet would be better though.

What's up with all these players not receiving a QO? There's a few very decent pick ups that I would welcome on the sens. Is this a new strategy by GMs to get them to sign cheaper at the risk of them walking away? Seems a bit odd to tell a guy he's not being qualified because they want to sign him cheap instead and expecting him to resign with the team instead of exploring free agency.

Pretty clear a few of these guys are just going to re-sign below their QO... No need go get all worked up.

For Calgary, a few bad arbitration awards and teams could have sent offer sheets to Gaudreau and Monahan that Calgary would have been unable to match.

Brandon Pirri is definitely someone id be interested in slotting in on our 3rd line and can move up in case of injuries. Weren't we rumoured in wanting him at the deadline last year before he got traded to the ducks?

these teams probably just want to sign them for less or longer deals

Smith-Pageau-Pirri (40G)
Puempel-Lazar-Dzingel (20G)

Hoffman-Zibanejad-Stone (75G)
MacArthur-Turris-Ryan (70G)

Phaneuf-Karlsson (30G)
Methot-Ceci (20G)
Chabot-Wideman (10G)

=265 goals...

The 1st place best scoring Caps last season had 265 goals, LOL.

So I may have exaggerated a bit. But I think we can have a high scoring team and if we reduce our GA and SA this team can be a legit underdog next year like #Iceland2016
