If we don't win lottery, maybe we'll get someone on my country. Puljujärvi and especially Laine are very exciting prospects. Both have huge potential to be elite NHLers.

You say if like we have a chance at winning the lottery :sarcasm:. Seriously though you know our preseason was bad when the draft thread is up before openings night haha.

I used kinda long time thinking if I use word "when" instead of "if", but I wanted to be even a little bit optimistic.

Watching the draft lottery this year is going to be so intense. I hope they do the count down from 14 to one like always, but this time if a team isn't in their normal spot it won't give away the whole thing and you'll still have to wait to see if they are 1,2, or 3.

I'll likely pass out if we have a repeat of last year's lottery though

Last year there was only one team that "lost" the lottery. Out of thirty teams, there was only one loser.

It can't be as bad a last year. Thinking about that still infuriates me. One more spot, the last team who could've bumped us out of course did.

Started viewing already.

Tkachuk is the real deal. Very composed. Great offensive skills. Plays physical. Top 10.

Jones is a bull in a china shop. Top 15 guy

Sam Steel looks good against weaker competition but struggled mightily last night against Brandon and Provorov. He's in the conversation with Jones in 15-20. Smallish playmaking C. 2nd liner.

D Clague. Playmaking LD. Plays behind OEL clone Provorov on an extremely strong team. Feasts on PP because of it. Late first. Likely 2nd rounder.

You're tougher on Clague than the supposed experts who seem to think he's anywhere from 9 to 15. Wonder if playing behind Provorov actually hurts his chances to go higher.

1st viewing. I think he's slightly tainted by being on such a strong team. The guys he's passing to don't fumble puck.

HBK, where in the draft do you project Sean Day? Seems to have had a fall from grace.

Hah, never really thought of it that way. Could have been winners with Buffalo, but of course it played out that way.

I did a little research of the NBA draft history with regards to the Top 3 picks as it relates to this "will finish worst in the league but pick 4th" talk going on.

Here is some history.

http://www.nba.com/history/draft_evolution.html

1987-Present: Top Three Teams
Under a procedural change adopted by the Board of Governors in October of 1986, the Lottery determined the order of selection for the first three teams only. The remaining non-playoff teams selected in inverse order of their regular season records. Therefore, the team with the worst record in the league was assured of picking no worse than fourth, the team with the second-worst record no worse than fifth and so on.
In 1987, the Clippers finished with a league-worst 12-70 record, but didn't strike it lucky in the lottery and under the new rules, wound up with the fourth pick. The Spurs, who had the fourth-worst record at 28-54 struck gold with Navy center David Robinson at No. 1. Only one of the three worst teams that year wound up with one of the top three picks -- New Jersey, which picked Ohio State guard Dennis Hopson.

In 1988, again only one of the three worst teams wound up with one of the top three picks, but at least this time, the Clippers' lowest winning percentage paid off and L.A. won the draft lottery. The Clippers used the No. 1 pick on Kansas forward Danny Manning.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_draft_lottery

Since 1987
5 times the worst the in the NBA won the lottery with 1 of 2 teams tied for worst overall in the LeBron James sweepstakes.

2nd worst team won it 4 times
3rd worst team won it 6 times
Only 6 times a team with the 6th worst record or better won the lottery with 2 9th place finishers winning the lottery and 1 time the 11th worst record in the league won the lottery.

Your cheeriness is now on the same level as WJF.

Was it the Gormley trade that put you in this mood?

I'm pretty close to his level of pessimism, for me it was preseason. I knew we'd be bad, but 4 goals in 6 games........woof.

Preseason is meaningless. It predicts nothing. We'll score more goals than last year. We'll win more games than last year.
