Going to Boston College, a fantastic program, so that's a positive.

Former Washington GM George McPhee's son.

I wasn't overly impressed with him this season but he does compete hard and bring intensity. Despite his size, he is hard to take the puck from. Swift skater. Upside is a little limited. Would have preferred:

Quenneville
Ronning
Kuznetsov
Sokolov
Pasichnuk

But oh well I guess.

5'11 172 left winger who put up 18 points in 58 games with the USDP.

Projected right around this spot. But what am I missing?

Son of George McPhee who could be Vegas's new GM. Maybe throw him in a deal to Vegas to not pick a certain player in expansion draft ;)

Had a decent U-18's. Not a home-run pick, but could be a decent project to keep an eye on.

Still hoping we use a pick on Quenneville at some point. Starting to get the feeling he could go undrafted, but maybe we could camp invite him if thats the case.

I like that we picked a high energy guy. It's something out bottom 6 needs now and in the future. Strength, tenacity, work ethic. He will never be a top 6 player, but judging by our current depth there, I don't think we will be looking for him to play there.

always like taking players who compete hard in later rounds, nice to have some good bottom 6 players in the system when we are tight against the cap and can't afford to pay the established ones

Not a big fan of this pick with what was left on the board. Didn't think he'd get drafted. Very low upside pick.

Good skater, tenacious, and enough skill for the NHL. This guy and Marino are my college sleeper picks for the Oilers. Kesselring could be another, but I'd need to see more than just highlights on him to form a better opinion.

I get the feeling McPhee will be what this organization thinks Drake Caggiula is - fast, skilled, tenacious 3rd liner. Sucks that the college guys don’t usually come to main camp.

Super surprised at the step he took this year.

The player I saw play in 16-17 wasn't one that screamed offensive growth this quickly.

Friend of mine who DID see him play this year thinks he'll be a 20-20 guy next year, but he's a dope. Excited to see though!

Well McPhee definitely has the much better frame to become that type of player. I still don't mind Caggiula like a lot on here seem to, but there's no question his size holds him back from being more effective. That certainly isn't a concern with McPhee as he continues to fill out that 6'1 frame.

Glad to see that he looks like he's developing an offensive touch now. I as well wasn't a fan of the pick but his play last year is making me a fan.

lets wait till he turns pro before we jump the gun with him

lets let him develop and see where he goes..

I wish I had saved all those Greg Chase comments this board had from a few years ago

this is not the 1980's where uni players scared off nhl teams--if a uni player drops scouts may see something the rest of us do not

And maybe sometime scouts are wrong for letting them drop, kucherov dropped and seems to be making all the scouts that passed on him look foolish

Pretty sure people said Khaira was a bust as well. No harm in being excited or dissapointed in prospects development.

Agreed.

Second to Kemp, McPhee was the big breakout/revelation for me this year.
I like Kemp's game as well. Would be a smart add by the USA to their U20 team next year to provide a calming defensive defender who can skate. Seems like there's some untapped offensive potential there as well that we might see over the next couple seasons.
