Please don´t see this as critique, but you´ve switched up Kylington and Wotherspoon contract wise (can be deleted after corrected) :)

thanks for noticing, I am prone to make the odd little mistake like that especially when I am not wearing my glasses and can't actually read what I am doing

I added a list of now former Heat players to the OP that have either retired or signed elsewhere.

As per his agent the Heat signed defenseman Roman Dyukov to a 1 year AHL deal.

Seems strange they'd import someone with the number of Dmen already expected to play for the team
Kulak/Wotherspoon (whichever doesn't make the big club or maybe both start in the AHL) Morrisson
Kanzig Kylington
Culkin Andersson

are the guys I assume they will be trying to get minutes to, surprised they wouldnt go with more local vets for the 7th and 8th rotation spots.

Most players (especially unknowns) on AHL deals split time between the AHL and ECHL

Also a few things, Morrison was not good enough to be a 3rd pairing defenseman last season, his defense makes Justin Schultz look like Nik Lidstrom. Culkin was poor in his AHL time last year and was unimpressive (at least statistically) in the ECHL last year. Andersson and Kanzig have 3 combined pro games between them. Even Culkin and Wotherspoon weren't the teams top 2 defenseman last year and both did not live up to expectations during their AHL time. IMO the Heat have zero top pairing defenseman but will likely use one or both of Kulak and Wotherspoon in that role.

That's why I expect them to go out and get a veteran to come in, I see 6 guys that need development minutes but outside of Kulak there isn't a lot of consistency on that roster that you can put in; seems like they've just added a 7th meh prospect-type player (based on the age and where he scores at on his team's depth charts) rather than getting an Aaron Johnson replacement.

Though I probably worded that poorly as obviously the vets don't play 7/8th D minutes unless the kids step up in a big way. But I can't see this guy being top 4 on the depth chart so why not get a North American guy to sit a bunch of games.

I think it's as simple as he impressed someone at rookie camp. In artlilinked n the tweet f you translate it, it sounds a if the Flames offered this deal immediately after rookie camp but he'd committed to going to the Hawks rookie camp as well. Also with Falkovsky potentially playing pro, it could be to give him a countryman one team.

The Heat has reportedly signed 31 year old centrermen Mike Angelidis. Angelidis has been the captain of the Syracuse Crunch the past 4 seasons.

http://www.syracuse.com/crunch/inde...gelidis_lands_ahl_pact.html#incart_river_home

Former Syracuse Crunch captain Mike Angelidis is moving west for the next stage of his AHL career.

Angelidis said Monday morning that he has signed a 1-year, AHL deal with the Stockton Heat. Stockton is affiliated with the Calgary Flames.

Angelidis, 31, said he had some offers from Europe but didn't want to go there at this point in his career.

"I wasn't getting worried,'' Angelidis said of going so deep into the summer without a deal. "They (Stockton) had talked to us for the longest time. They had always been in play. I can look forward to playing and getting ready for the year. It seems like a good fit and we'll see how it goes.''

What is your guys perception of Klimchuk? Based on the past year or two, do you feel he has the talent to still make the jump? Fully assuming this is a huge year for his development.

It's been discussed to death most just stat watch and will tell you he was terrible in his first professional season. Offensively speaking that is true, he did not have a good season offensively, in no small part to playing a checking role all season. Defensively he did not look like a first year pro, by seasons end he was on the top PK unit and was playing in a shutdown role. He also had 2 stints where he was injured.

I still very much think Klimchuk will be an NHL player, I project him the same as I always have and that is a future middle 6 winger. I would compare his upside to Frolik/Backlund as he plays a similar game to them.

He's an okay prospect, not that far off from where you would expect a #28OA to be, but certainly not ahead of that. Getting a little bit quicker to create separation, a little bit stronger to win more offensive battles, and getting more offensive opportunity might be good for him. Am I crazy about him no, he's basically projected to be an average size third liner. But sure, he does have the talent to make the jump to that role. The role itself is just a bit redundant, but eh, you never know when a cap squeeze might force you to drop a Frolik and replace internally. He could do that. I just don't get especially excited slotting him in the way I might a Jankowski, Hickey, or Kylington.

Some love him. Some don't think there is much there.

He's not even a top 15 prospect for the Flames IMO.

Who gets sent to the Echl.
Good question. I will address that by position.

Goaltenders

I think in net Mason McDonald is Adirondack bound, unless he returns for an overage season in the Q. Although if David Rittich needs time to adjust to the smaller North American rinks he may start in the ECHL for a handful of games to start the year and then flip flop with McDonald. Another possibility with the expansion draft looming would be Mason McDonald staying in the QMJHL and being moved to a contender, Rittich spending much of the year in Stockton until close to the deadline when the Flames acquire an older goaltender (someone in the vein of Poulin) to fulfill the expansion draft requirement and Rittich sent to finish the season in the ECHL.

Defense

I think Roman Dyukov will start in the ECHL assuming his AHL signing is legitimate (it has yet to be confirmed by the club), Stefan Falkovsky could also be sent to the Thunder assuming the Ottawa 67s cannot find a taker for an overagimport defenseman. Assuming there are no veteran signings I suspect the other 8 listed in the OP will start in Stockton, with the exception of Wotherspoon or Kulak who may make the big club as a #7.

Forwards

With just 13 forwards under contract and 4 or 5 of them fighting for 2 or 3 NHL jobs I do not think any of our contracted forwards will be sent to the ECHL. When the Heat start adding guys on AHL deals and PTOs, like Ryan Lomberg and Mitchell Heard were last season; those will be the guys I expect to shuffle between the AHL and ECHL.
