Also the talk about "If *insert QB here* gets hurt this team is ****ed" This pretty much applies to almost any team. If we're using that as a legitimate argument if Romo has a half decent season next year and the cowboys make the playoffs. He should win MVP, cause well look what they did without him.

Did you really just compare qb rushing yards to qb receiving yards? That's laughable, you just really want to double down on your "no statistical argument" claim.

BTW newton has better yards per attempt (6th vs 7th) and Carolina has better yards per completion 2nd vs new englands not first, than Brady or ne.

And again, I'm not even saying newton should win, I disagree that there is no argument to be made at all. I've given you 4 stats where newton is 1st or second, and 1 where he's 6th (but still better than Brady).

Again, tho, calling rushing yards cherry picked....

Rushing yards is cherry picked because its simply a component of total yards, which Newton lags far behind the league leaders in.

The fact is, Newton is closer to Alex Smith in total yards than he is to Tom Brady. You shouldn't be able to say that about an MVP.

Ah yes because there is no better way to judge the MVP candidate than passing yards and QBR.

If you don't want to vote for Cam, that's fine, but to claim he's not a top 10 QB and say "there are so many better options"? Yeah, you're just being contrarian for the sake of it.

Fun fact. Cam has a better QBR than Brady

Newton has had more drives end with a TD than any other QB in the league. What's he supposed to do, make the field longer?

After watching Cam turn it on lately, its Cam. I have to wonder though - what if Brown had a healthy Big Ben throwing him the ball all year? His numbers are already insane, they would be record shattering with Big Ben playing all 16.

Not sure how Wilson isn't an option. Nobody really thought Cam was a legit candidate until he started putting up those monster stat-lines 5 weeks ago when they were already 9-0 to bring his totals up. Granted Atlanta was still in the picture at that point, but it's not like Carolina needed to put up wins as much as Seattle did over the course of the last 5, when both started putting up monster numbers.

Last 5 weeks

Cam Newton: 105/168 (62.5%), 1,365 yards, 18 TD, 1 INT, 121.3 Passer Rating, 37 rushes, 214 yards, 1 TD, 1 FUM Lost

Russell Wilson: 110/148 (74.3%), 1,420 yards, 19 TD, 0 INT, 143.6 Passer Rating, 28 rushes, 147 yards, 1 TD, 0 FUM Lost

Overall

Cam Newton: 258/439 (58.8%), 3,402 yards, 33 TD, 10 INT, 98.9 Passer Rating, 119 rushes, 580 yards, 7 TD, 3 FUM Lost

Russell Wilson: 285/414 (68.8%), 3,538 yards, 29 TD, 7 INT, 111.4 Passer rating, 92 rushes, 502 yards, 1 TD, 2 FUM Lost

They're extremely comparable statistically both overall (with Newton having the big rushing TD advantage, and Wilson being much more efficient as a passer) and in the last 5 weeks (which is what vaulted both to MVP-caliber statistically).

Difference is that Wilson had his back up against the wall in those games, and is the main reason Seattle is going to enter the playoffs as a favorite.

All that being said, I actually like Palmer due to consistency. Brady would be my runner-up.

I really don't think anyone looks at the seahawks and say "Wilson is the reason why they're favourites."

For me this isn't all that close. I think Cam is running away with it. He's increasing the gap with each passing week.

Newton led game-winning drives of 66 and 88 yards in the final minutes of two of those games. In the others he completely curb-stomped his opponents.

Is his performance supposed to be viewed more lightly than Wilson's because of his team's record?

I think the defense isn't what it's used to be, though it's still pretty solid, but Wilson's play makes up the difference. He's made Baldwin a threat and with a ****** offensive line and a revolving door at RB. That said, I still think Cam is the MVP. His top WR got cut from another MVP candidate's team because he wasn't good enough. Cam might turn his season into a franchise best in terms of TDs, on a team that had Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad forever (and how many more has Ginn dropped?).

Top 5:

1. Cam
2. Wilson
3. Brady
4. Palmer
5. Roethlisberger

All the other ares are playing well, but:

Brown - I just find it really hard to give the MVP to a WR, even as good as him, because of what he did during Ben's injury. 4 out of 5 weeks under 50 yards.

Rodgers - Really hasn't been that great this year. The defense has mostly held together lately and Lacy has been good, so they've won, but not impressively.

Peterson - He's carrying the team, but not every week. Bridgewater has been just okay, though better lately, but they struggled because of the defensive injuries.

The timing of Cam putting up his monster numbers does drop him big time in the MVP race in my eyes, yes. My point is that almost nobody would have considered him the MVP when he was 9-0 with 15 passing TDs and 9 picks, even though Carolina was already a near lock for the playoffs and a huge favorite at the time. The only reason he's entered the discussion to the point where he's likely going to win now is because he's had an absolutely absurd last 5 weeks to bring his stats up to elite, and that came during a time where the importance of Carolina racking up wins had diminishing returns.

With Wilson, he's statistically mirrored Newton this year, but him catching fire in the last 5 weeks has actually resulted in a massive benefit to his team in the playoff race.

If we take a freeze frame in the NFL just before both of them started on their absurd ascent up the statistical leaderboard, Seattle had a 16.66% chance of making the playoffs. Carolina had a 99.37% chance. I just don't understand why that shouldn't come into play when we're measuring value they're providing their team with on the year.

I think the difference is that people were already talking about Newton because his team was 9-0 before he began that insane stretch.

Conversely, the Seahawks were sputtering until Wilson went God-Mode, but by then it was too late, Newton had "sealed" it. Similar to when Yakupov was the rookie goal leader, but never even got a nomination, he began scoring too late.

If you watch the Panthers, Newton is the main reason they haven't "needed" wins lately. They aren't the highest scoring team in the league because of their amazing receivers and dominant running backs. It's because they have a QB who is all but un-containable. When the opponent folds, the Panthers win in a blowout. When the opponent steps up, Newton has been the one thing they can't stop.

We actually saw both sides of that coin in the Giants game. Second and third quarter, Newton made it look easy. Fourth quarter, he got serious and engineered a cold-blooded game winning drive. He's done that stuff every single week, I don't see why it should be held as a negative that he's done it so many times that the team doesn't "need" him to do it as much going forward.

And they would be wrong. He is the reason. He's put that team on his back and they've gone from out of the playoff picture altogether to a solid 9-5.

I think any of Brady, Newton or Wilson has a legitimate claim to the MVP and I wouldn't be upset at whoever gets it. Brady has the stats, Newton has the wins and Wilson has the storyline.

As Newton makes his read and hands the ball off, you can see four defenders on the back side of the run all watching Newton. None of those four defenders are actually being blocked. That’s the type of threat Newton brings. On the front side of the play, the Packers’ defense gets sealed inside while the Panthers right guard works around to make a block on a linebacker.

The ability to block players without blocking them, just by being on the field. That's pretty damn valuable.

Wilson doesn't jump Palmer on my list because of the last 5 weeks. Palmer has been doing it all season and has led his team to a better record. Before someone brings up the weapons, we've seen what that team and the weapons look like without Palmer.

1. Cam
2. Brady
3. Palmer

Lacy Good????? He's at almost 700 yards with 3 TD's this season. Two previous seasons he's had over 1100 yards with 11 & 9 TDs respectively. (Rushing). His receiving numbers are down too and he was even demoted.

In the last 5 games they won the defence allowed 13/30/7/6/13. IF your QB can't lead an offence that only needed 2 touchdowns to win 4 games, that's a problem.

Like Wilson is putting up great stats and it's impressive he's doing it without lynch and now rawls but that defence is still dominating. I don't see (not targeting you) how an argument for Cam to not win MVP is how good that defence is, when Wilson has won a total of one game this year after his defence allowed more than 20 points.

I also don't get the love for Antonio Brown. If you can say "Oh if Big Ben stayed healthy his stats would be better" How does that make him an MVP? If let's say Texans made the playoffs. I would say Hopkins would be more of a MVP then he is. Brown is the best WR in the league, but wouldn't say he's the most valuable.

In the 10 games Roethlisberger has played, Brown is on pace for 158 receptions, 2,162 yards, and 14 TDs over a full season
