Reliable defender that can eat up minutes due to his smart play in his own end and his strength along the boards. Uses his size to his advantage and protects the puck well. Knows his game inside and out; he knows what he can and can't do. In this, he knows how to push his limits and break down boundaries. What he can work on would be quicker decision making and quickness through the neutral zone. All-in-all, a well-rounded defenceman who has the tools and the work ethic to be successful moving forward.

My writeup based on readings, as usual:

"Big defenceman with good mobility has taken a huge leap forward this season after passing through the draft last year, capping his season with a key OT goal in the Memorial Cup, understands the defensive game well and plays with good defensive intelligence, mobile enough to chase down pucks, good basic contributor on the rush, has a respectable point shot, occasionally jumps into the offence, but mostly plays a more conservative style in the offensive zone."

Smart two way defenseman ... Can't argue with that. Hockey IQ is important in getting their later picks to pan out

Was impressed with this kid during the Memorial Cup. Seems like a solid pick.

Solid enough pick. Seems like they are trying to balance things out a bit with a couple picks of guys with size. Sounds like he's an ok skater, though not great.

Not a bad pick. At this point of the draft it's not a pick that will hurt you.

there you go people complaining about size

leafs got 2 big Ds now

Don't forget that the Leafs also got the rights from Philly for Nikita Zaitsev, a 6' 1'' 23 year old defenseman who is one of if not the best defensemen in the KHL. Not this year but it looks like he will be over next year.

So that would be three new ones.
