Capobianco was held back this season playing on a weak Sudbury team, but proved to scouts that he is a sound two way defenseman. He is a smooth skater, good passer and is a capable powerplay quarterback, but is also sound defensively, making the smart play often and shutting down the passing lanes. Capobianco would be ranked much higher if not on such a weak team this season. (Tyler Parchem, EP 2015) - See more at: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=225186#sthash.bO8XJRAC.dpuf

With a high hockey IQ, elite skating ability, top-notch puck management and 10-30-40 points on the year, Kyle Capobianco should be getting more attention, but even the best individual skills can get lost when you play on a bad team. Some players elevate the players around them, other players can’t elevate those players no matter what they do. Capobianco plays for the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL, a league in which every team won at least 24 of 68 games this past season — except Sudbury, which won just 12. Capobianco’s -49 rating will shock some, but only out of context; a half-dozen teammates were even worse. Capobianco’s stock will be low in the draft, but it should help make him a steal in retrospect.

Capobianco is an underrated two-*‐way rearguard who plays top pair minutes and plays a fair share of special teams. He is a smooth skater who is very mobile on his feet and is quite balanced. He possesses a strong skating base and is hard to knock around. Moves well laterally and can cut the angles effectively thanks to this. Fast feet, but could slow it down and lengthen his stride a little more in order to make his movements more powerful and efficient. Skates fairly well with the puck–can protect it as he moves up ice, but not overly creative.

Kyle Capobianco’s game is defined by his outstanding skating ability. He is so smooth its like he glides out there on the ice, often looking like he is floating just above the surface. Capobianco shows excellent speed and acceleration both forwards and backwards, great pivots, excellent lateral agility, and fantastic edgework. The great skating gives him outstanding mobility allows Capobianco to lead or join the rush offensively and and still be able to recover back to his position. He covers a ton of ice, and it is very difficult to beat Capobianco one-on-one because he is so good on his feet. His footwork can give Capobianco an edge on retrieving loose pucks, and moving them out of the zone quickly. He could stand to add some lower body strength to improve his balance

Tied for 2nd in scoring on his terrible OHL team. Impressive for a draft eligible D. Don't let the -49 scare you. Severa players on the team were worse. He just HF a lot of ice time on a bad, bad team.

I like the pick. Reminds me of a left handed Melindy, who I also liked when we picked him. Hopefully he develops better...

Bloodlines before and now friendlines. It's a lot easier to like a team or feel accepted/welcomed if your friend is part of the organization.

I am a proponent of drafting teammates for that exact reason. Built in chemistry.

Apparently his uncle owns BTM

Yes his uncle does. Not sure if any of you guys play roller, but a few years back BTM put together a team based out of AZ that was also sponsored by Reebok, Team Reebok BTM AZ. They ended up winning the NARCH Championship for their age division. Capobianco was on the team, as was Dylan Strome pictured below.

TGO felt the same way ... :sarcasm:
Hockey IQ and skating, fits the mold.
There is the phrase that pays. Good skaters who make good decisions with the puck. Like this type of player, like this pick. The extra Strome / Valley stuff is just gravy.
Some info on Capobianco for you guys. Also interviewed him and wrote a piece on him.

Thanks for the link and for the link to the pipeline show ... nice segment.

Edit: "I look at guys in the West that are pretty good like Doughty and Ekman-Larsson from Phoenix those guys are pretty skilled offensive guys. No one really from the Leafs right now ... I'd say Morgan Rielly is pretty good now too."

Nice to see an Ontario kid who had to go, "Uhh ... yeah, who's on the Leafs again?" Uhh, Rielly, Rielly ..."

I hope this kid makes the team someday because with a name like Capobianco, how can you not nickname him "The Godfather," the capo di tutti capi?
