Team USA likely entered the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship knowing they would face difficult opponents over the course of the tournament. But it is likely that they didn't expect a major challenge, let alone a tough loss, in their opening contenst against Switzerland.
While the U.S. squad was the more dominant team through much of the game, the Swiss notched a 4-2 win off of three unanswered third period goals. Swiss goaltender Gauthier Descloux stymied the USA attack, giving his team a chance to steal the win in the final stanza.
