I don't know if I'd consider Brassard to Wilson a downgrade. But, then again, I am not a big Brassard fan. I'll take Wilson's cheaper contract and added size over Brassard's PP prowess.

Because they're RFAs.*

They could make the pitch that they'll only accept a 1 year deal so as to get on the UFA train next offseason, so to speak, but NYR, nor any other team would offer an RFA that sort of deal.

No I get they wont.. but a 1 yr arb award and these guys then become UFAs so thats what they are thinking...

IMO I think Lombardi is another D.Moore and will play on our fourth line since he can play wing... with his and moore speed that fourth line looks nice

I too think he is a fourth liner. If he plays well, and there are injuries, he may get elevated. It's an unknown currently just how well he will do in the NHL, but it's well worth the look at $800K to see if a player has put injuries behind him and can regain some of the form he once had. He's not too old and it's not like he wasn't skating last season.

Is there a realistic trade we could make with Calgary for Backlund or Hudler?

Backlund seems kind of redundant, but I wouldn't hate it.

Hudler however...no thank you. Another tiny forward and he's wildly inconsistent from game to game. Zero interest.

Brassard is a better player in terms of generating offense for his line mates. I think Wilson, as a replacement for Pouliot, would be fantastic. As a NHL-body for 3C duties he'd also be a fit, but as a replacement for Brassard on the 2nd line? Not really a fan.

Are there rumors that Nasvhille is shopping Wilson? Or is this just spec since they have a ton of centers now?

It's been speculated for a while that he's available. Most of that stems from apparent issues with Barry Trotz though. My guess is that Poile would want to hold onto him and see what happens under Laviolette.

Tyler Ennis signs a 5 year 23M dollar extension. 4.6 cap hit.

Welcome to the new NHL, Derick Brassard probably just became a 5M player.

It's a ridiculous deal but at the end of the day I'm happy that guys are starting to make more money. Hockey players are the hardest working athletes and unfortunately least paid. It's about time guys start making more.

Hopefully the cap will continue to rise. I know Rangers ticket prices continue to rise.

Fair. Like his size, I like his potential, I like the positions he plays - I don't like that he's a left-handed shot though. I still think that's the most underrated piece of the puzzle when we build our teams here. Most contain just two potential right-hand shots in Stepan and Fast.

We just need a mid-tier right-handed C/LWer. Age 23-27 with some size. Is that too much to ask? :naughty:

Any chance we can steal Smith-Pelly from ANA? Scheifele from the 'Peg? Yeah right. Tommy Wingels from SJ? Charlie Coyle from Minnesota?

At the least, Wingels could be a target. We also have some young depth around the organization that could be spent on other team's young players. Don't really see Anaheim parting with DSP. No way Winnipeg parts with Scheifele. Charlie Coyle from Minnesota probably not going anywhere either.

If SJ really is interested in blowing it up, I'd send them Miller and a mid-level guy like Yogan for Wingels. Don't know if they'd bite on that though...

Yogan is actually about ****-level

Then again, we did manage to get Higgins and Valentenko for Tom Pyatt and (tongue deep in cheek) Busto.
