Randy Lee says he sees Lazar as a winger to start here.
BM says zibanejad is top 6 center.
Hoffman has been signed and has a spot that is his to lose.
Spezza trade may not return a roster player.
Michalek is wanted back.

Michalek-Zibanejad-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Stone
Hoffman-Pageau-Condra/Lazar
Greening-Smith-Neil

Each position LW,C,and RW probably need at least one upgrade. I also wouldn't mind using this year to just evaluate some young guys and see what they can do. no pressure. realistically we are not winning any cups this year.

Let's say we go into next year with 8 D consisting of Phillips, Wiercioch, Cowen, Methot, Boro, Karl, Ceci, Gryba. What would your ideal pairings/ lineup look like?

my ideal line up will be (what i want)

Wiercioch - Karlsson
Methot - Gryba
Cowen - Ceci
Boro
Phillips

What i know they will be

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Gryba
Phillips - Ceci
Wiercioch
Boro

Gryba, Ceci, Wiercioch, and Boro will all be rotating 4 roster spots leading to more inconsistency in our line up. I have no problem with it this year tho, because there is some sweet pie at the top of the draft.

Lets play this game...

MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Schwartz - Legwand/Roy - Stone
Hoffman - Smith - Zibanejad
Greening - Pageau - Neil/Condra

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Ceci
Wiercioch/Boro/Philips - Gryba

Lehner
Anderson

Trade Spezza for Schwartz (base)
Sign Legwand or Roy.
Give ice time to your young guns

MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Michalek - Zibanejad - Stone
Hoffman - Pageau - Etem/Chiasson/UFA
Greening - Smith - Neil

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Tom Gilbert
Wiercioch - Ceci
Phillips
Boro

Do something about Gryba, his value is about as high as its been, I think he is the most traceable (none of the others will get appropriate value for what they could be or they are named Karlsson).

What I would LIKE to see:

MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Michalek - Zib - Vrbata
Hoffman - Pageau - Stone
Greening - Smith - Neil

Wiercioch/Cowen - Karlsson
Methot - Shattenkirk
Wier/Cowen - Ceci
Phillips

Do something about Gryba and Boro(minors).

Yeah, Vrbata's not signing to be a third line winger on a bad team.

Almost 20 M$ in cap space. We could have a really good team if we had an owner with money to burn.

I'm not taking into account the incoming Spezza trade and UFA market.

I've always wondered what would happen if we tried Wiercioch-Karlsson and gave them all offensive zone starts... Could let us start Methot-Gryba in the d zone.

Cost-per-point winners right here. It's actually not a bad line-up, I just don't see leaner going for under 2 mill and I think Hoffman might get 1 million. Also Michalek might cost a few thousand more.

It'd be nice to sign Vrbata and upgrade our RW, especially since I don't think Lazar should waste a year of his ELC for the 2014-15 Sens.

MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Michalek - Zibanejad - Vrbata
Hoffman - Pageau - Stone
Greening - Smith - Neil/Condra

I think people will just assume Wiercioch - Karlsson would be bad defensive pairing in playing defence, but i think there might be something there, we have seen both these players single handedly get the puck out of the defensive end while an offensive forecheck is set up, so as long as one of them gets the puck transitioning shouldn't be a worry, and lets not forget they can both hit sexy point totals at seasons end :D , I hope we give it a try.

Gotta agree with this, they looked really good and both have the offensive potential to add in the offensive zone.

With Karlsson and Weircoch as a pairing it could be good but i think Wiercioch would have to add to his physcial game a bit. Could already imagine the breakouts from the defensive zone that those two could create, especially to a quick forward line or player like MacArthur or Turris or Zbad

Before draft day and free agency, it looks like:

MacArthur-Turris-Stone
Michalek-Zibanejad-Ryan
Hoffman-Pageau-Condra
Greening-Smith-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Gryba
Phillips-Ceci
Wiercioch, Borowiecki

Yeah that's pretty much spot on, I expect us to improve either LW or RHD through the Spezza trade. I see Smith ahead of Pageau on the depth chart as well.

actually, i wasn't thinking this, but wiercioch-ceci was definitely better than phillips-ceci and now that i've reminded myself of that i'll be pretty pissed if wiercioch gets moved and phillips is paired with ceci.

Second one is something I can get behind but you got to think Hoffman is going to be there somehow.

Unfortunately this is the most likely scenario. Even more so if we get a top 4 D with the Spezza return.

Don't know how to break this to you... But zone starts are calculated by face-offs, so ya the other team does have to let us change... :shakehead

Hate to break it to you but I want Wiercioch and Karlsson to change on their fly before it enters our zone. I cant imagine a worse defensive pairing in the nhl in their own zone.
