I don't have a "win at all costs mentality" I just think that having our best prospects play a larger quantity and quality of games is more important for development than just getting everybody ice-time no matter how bad the situation is.

I didn't mean you, I was indicating in the past 3 years a lot of the prime ice time has gone to veteran AHLers instead of young kids, so that we could win more games and go further. When Tampas team won it was because of prospects and not many veterans.

How's Nylander doing? I know point totals aren't all that defines a player but how many does he have? Also how long until Leipsic gets here and plays and where is he expected to be in the lineup?
Sorry for all the questions lol but finally, when the hell is Nylander expected to be switched to C?! A bit worried we are now developping him as a W.!!

Nylander went pointless in his first two gsmes and now has 7 points in 10gp. He's playing well, pretty much the most talent player on a nightly basis. He needs to put on more weight however to avoid getting pushed off the puck. He'll be switched to center is an unknown, it's easier to get European player in the grove of the AHL on the wing. Leipsic should play the next game, other parties in the trade are pending health checks

10 games, 2 goals, 4 assists, 6 points, +4.

Listed as a C but play wings.

Scott Thornton
Center -- shoots L
Born Jan 9 1971 -- London, ONT
[44 yrs. ago]
Height 6.03 -- Weight 206 [191 cm/93 kg]

Tyler Biggs
Right Wing -- shoots R
Born Apr 30 1993 -- Loveland, OH
[21 yrs. ago]
Height 6.03 -- Weight 224 [191 cm/102 kg]

I would like to see Tyler Biggs come up to the Leafs and given a 4th line role to start off. From what I read and hear hes looking like he can turn out to be Scott Thornton like. He's the muscle the Leafs need in there line up.

Knodel: Diamond in the rough?

Eric Knodel...has been doing very well under the radar for the Toronto Marlies..6'6", 24 years old..college background..an impressive 8 assists in 16 games and a +2 in plus minus.

Seems like a decent prospect.

One of those times where stats are misleading
Knodel has not been good this season.

Was at the Marlies game today.

- Nylander held onto the puck quite a bit during the game but didn't really stand out besides that
- Connor Brown showed he has great speed and is really good on the boards
- Rupert and Carrick played well today with 2 goals each
- McLaren was as usual getting into a fight right after a goal.
- Gibson doesn't look like he'll be anything special in the near future.
- Loved Viktor Loov's mobility on the back end.

He's been alright this season when he's played.

I think the best description for him is that he's steady.

He's a decent enough skater that he won't get beat, he's a big guy - but doesn't play a physical game, he's got a long reach to keep players to the outside, he's got decent defensive zone coverage.

Average wont really help him though. Especially with the depth we have down here in terms of D prospects, he has a lot of work to do. He isnt beating guys like Percy, Granberg, Nilsson, Finn, Loov
And than you have veterans like Mikelsson and Marshall

He hasnt been good season and yeah I guess average but thats not good though

Knodel is also 24 and that doesnt help matters as well

I dont know why I am ragging on him. I dont hate him and I am not a fan either. Just saying he is far behind.

Knodel needs a lot of work to put in to get there, but this is his first season as a pro. It would be similar to writing off any prospect that didn't show up right away. I think a lot of people were saying the same thing about Andrew MacWilliam when he first came to the team. He wasn't the greatest skater, but played with an edge and that's his game. Knodel needs to figure out what type of player he wants to be and focus on that because you're right, he isn't standing out either way.

Knodel turns 25 in June and hasn't been able to crack the Marlies full-time yet. It's a little different than if a 20 year old prospect can't handle playing against men at first.

I think its safe to say he won't be making big waves in the NHL, I'd say his ceiling is a #6 or 7 guy, and even that's a long (very long imo) shot at this point.

Obviously, I have nothing against the guy and hope he exceeds my expectations, but I just don't see it happening.

Steelheads!?
I am officially 5/5 at Marlie games.

Sammy C is by far my favourite Marlie. That kid was everywhere today putting a few behind the net, killing penalties and laying the body out on a few occasions.

Leivo looks like a strong presence. He will have a great career. He has the ability to bang around the boards and always seem to come out with the puck. He is also showing more commitment to D and saw him back checking hard today.

Nylander has great vision. I don't think he is NHL ready, but man can he ever control the puck and dish great passes.

Brown stands out as well. I hear a lot on HF how he's not the greatest skater. But one play in particular he took the long way around to blow by a defender, and slid the puck just passed the crease inches from the goal line.

Biggs is no scrub either. People need to back off because the kid can play. He plays D very well, kills penalty's, forecheck's, hit's hard and then skates hard off the ice. He will be fine.

I didn't follow the D too closely but I like what I saw from Loov. His hype is deserving. Also, Knodel looks huge out there. How do you pronounce his name properly?

Our third goal was scored because Bodie and Mclaren scared the hell out those guys. Then they tried to fight Mclaren after which didn't work out to well for them. Really pumped up the crowd. The Laughs need that intimidation factor. It's was mainly kids the arena scream "fight, fight, fight", hilarious.

My 2.

Knodel is like a Franson without confidence. He has a decent shot from the point thats all. He's slow, he's soft, he lacks aggression and can become lost at times. No one on this current marlies d core except maybe Loov are worth talking about, let alone worth getting excited about.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who sees this. I don't know if he will ever put the point production side of his game together ... which is at times especially frustrating because some of his goals have been real beauties, but he really can play.
