I've wanted to have Murray on this team since 2006 - hopefully he can become our shutdown guy who is physically intimidating.

Seems early. I remember a deeper pool last year also but it always thins out before July 1st.

Seems unlikely Murray will resign with SJ right now, they have too many d-men. I'd give him a shot here.

Clowe and Perry would be nice new winger set for Pavel.

Some netfront guys to update our situation since Homer retirement and when Bertuzzi is gone.

After watching Philly and Ottawa today. The Wings are gonna need some more tough hombres in the East.

Perry
Clowe
Torres

Don't see the Wings signing a top pairing D-man. Would have to trade for one. And move out some other guys.

Oh and I'll still want the Wings to make a run at Semin on a 1yr deal for Pavel.

This offseason will be very interesting, depending on how things work out it may force the hand of the Wings and they'll have to play more young guys. It's not a particularly good UFA crop, with about 7 high end forwards possibly making it to July 5th (I think 1 of Perry/Getzlad resign, Elias, Semin & Iginla all resign with their current teams as well). Their are no #1 dmen out there this year just a couple of #3s, Visnovsky leads the pack as the best but I think he's going to follow the money train and he's going to be in the KHL next year.

In terms of who I would want the most and what I would offer it would be something like this:

Forwards:

1. Getzlaf - 6 years x 40M
2. Perry - 6 years x 40M
3. Ribeiro - 3 years x 18M
4. Iginla - 1 year x 6.5
5. Semin - 2 years x 13M
6. Horton - 3 years x 15M

Defense:

1. Smid - 3 years x 13.5M
2. Visnovsky - 1 year x 6M
3. Streit - 2 years x 11M
4. Scuderi - 2 years x 8M
5. Regehr - 2 years x 7M

If we get lucky we could have a lineup next year looking like this:

FORWARDS
Gustav Nyquist ($1.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Corey Perry ($6.667m)
Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($2.750m)
Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m)
Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m)
Joakim Andersson ($0.750m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m)
DEFENSEMEN
Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m)
Brendan Smith ($1.250m) / Rob Scuderi ($4.000m)
Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Jakub Kindl ($1.000m)
Brian Lashoff ($0.725m)
GOALTENDERS
Jimmy Howard ($4.000m)
Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m)
OTHER
Buyout: Mikael Samuelsson ($0.000m)
Buyout: Carlo Colaiacovo ($0.000m)

We buyout Sammy & Carlo (I can really only see Holland buying out Carlo). Re-sign Smith, Nyquist, Andersson, Howard, Brunner & Kindl. We let Filppula & White walk. The only problem is we don't have a RH shot dman in the lineup at all.

Would someone who understands the CBA a bit more then myself mind explaining the changes to the Free Agency period now? I know it starts on July 5th but I have this idea in my head that players are allowed to talk to teams starting on June 28th, or a week before July 5th, they just can't sign with the any teams yet.

I think Getzlaf and Perry aren't realistic options because they'll either be re-signed or we'll be out bid.

So the only players that really interest me are:

F:
Semin (short-term deal only)
Morrow (only if he comes cheap)
Ryder
Weiss
Penner (also, if he comes semi-cheap)

D:
Scuderi
Murray

Guys I'd be interested would be Perry, Getzlaf, Iginla, Ribiero, Weiss, Horton, Clowe, Cooke, Fedotenko, Torres, Scuderi, Smid.

What I'd love to see happen in Detroit (not happening too many trades)

Resign: Kindl, Smith, Nyquist, Andersson, Brunner, Howard
Trade: Coliacovo, Eaves, Franzen, Quincey
Buyout: Samuelsson, Bertuzzi (or retire)
Sign: Horton, Getzlaf, Torres, Smid, Scuderi

To many moves for Holland and Co. to do this, but it's nice to dream isn't it?

I think the Wings have good shot at Perry. The situation with Parise and Suter was different. Once those two decided they wanted to play in Minnesota together, the Wings had zero chance in signing them. There's no big indication Perry wants to stay in Anaheim, and from what I understand, he wants to test the market. My only worry is if the Ducks trade; better to get something for him than nothing.

I think this summer the Wings make a splash.

Ideal and somewhat realistic lineup I'd like to see. I still don't like the Sammy signing, but he can still contribute 15-20 goals. I like Big Bert and his SO skills, but he's getting slower and more injury prone. I love the hustle of Miller and to me he's still a good depth guy. I wouldn't mind having him on the team still, but I wouldn't cry without him.

do people actually even think detroit is going to be active on July 5th?

most of those top UFA's will be resigned, those that wont will likely have bagage(character issues, work ethic, age)

i honestly feel KH will make a trade deadline day move whereby we acquire a depth dman who is signed beyond this summer and that and that alone will be our big move from now till next Sept.

I dont forsee KH buying out anyone

I'm not sure why people really want Douglas Murray. Sure he hits; Sharks fans however, are not keen on him. They say he's pretty slow as well.
