2013 Chicago Bears Draft

1st round (20th overall) = RG Kyle Long
2nd round (50th overall) = LB Jon Bostic
4th round (117th overall) = LB Khaseem Greene
5th round (163rd overall) = T Jordan Mills
6th round (188th overall) = LB Cornelius Washington
7th round (236th overall) = WR Marquis Wilson

- Long has proven to be a gem (To my surprise) and has been a Pro Bowler all 3 seasons since draft
- Bostic sucked,, All the speed and athletism in world yet he simply sucked at playing the game of football and was traded to Patriots
- Greene showed promise his first season in limited play but year two he was not very good and was waived. Lovie Smith picked him up in TB but he didn't last long and now is on Lions practice squad
- Started first two years at RT for Bears ,, Was ok year 1 but dreadful year 2. Now a Bills backup T I believe
- Has barely played for Bears as two of his three seasons he has been injured. Still on roster though could be camp casultiy if he doesn't show something
- Wilson has also struggled with injuries but showed signs of becoming WR Bears hope he can be last season before injury. If Healthy he should be good #3 WR

Long has been great while late rounders Mills and Wilson have proven good value for were they were picked

Overall a B is what I would give draft. The failure of Bostic and Greene hurts especially as LB has been issue for Bears since Urlacher/Briggs declined and retired

1/14 - DT Star Lotulelei: Leading up to the draft, Star was thought of as a top 5 pick but fell due to a perceived heart condition. After getting cleared days before the draft, he still fell to this spot. Aside from a few minor foot problems, he's been healthy and a run-stopping force. I still can't spell his name, though.

2/44 - DT Kawann Short: Arguably better than Star since they were drafted, but last year there was no debate. Short became a pass-rushing phenom and the Ying to Short's Yang. We should hear about a long-term deal for him before training camp starts.

4/108 - OG Edmund Kugbila: Leading up to the 2016 Draft, Gettleman actually was pretty candid about reaching here. Kugbila also suffered a string of injuries and never played a down.

5/148 - LB AJ Klein: Not Luke Kuechly actually did an admirable job while filing in during Kuechly's concussion earlier this year. He's probably not long for this team with Shaq Thompson on the roster and Jeremy Cash being slotted as a LB, though. He's not a guy you want anchoring your defense, probably, but he's a good depth player on any team.

6/182 - RB Kenjon Barner: Never really did anything other than unspectacularly return kicks. Then he was traded to the Eagles (because of course) for a 7th. No gain, no loss.

Undrafted - CB Melvin White: He started a few games before Norman came along and showed flashes, but never really got better. I see that he's still got a shot at the NFL in Minnesota, so maybe he'll be a late bloomer.

Undrafted - SS Robert Lester: Another guy who was just okay. When people talk about the 2014 Panthers, they have to realize that guys like Lester and White and Silatolu etc. were starters. When they got replaced towards the end of the year, the team got significantly better. They essentially rebuilt the 2013 that year and still won the division.

Overall, this is a pretty solid draft for Gettleman's debut. Two guys that will anchor the Carolina defensive line for the next few years, at least, and a bunch of depth. Solid "A" from me.

Rams:

Round 1, Pick 8: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
Round 1, Pick 30: Alec Ogletree, OLB, Georgia
Round 3, Pick 9: T.J. McDonald, SS, USC
Round 3, Pick 30: Stedman Bailey, WR, West Virginia
Round 4, Pick 16: Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama
Round 5, Pick 16: Brandon Mcgee, CB, Miami
Round 5, Pick 27: Zac Stacy, RB, Vanderbilt

McGee and Jones have't really done anything, and neither are with the team anymore.

Every other pick has been pretty good, especially those first three. Stacy had a good rookie year, but hasn't done much since, and is now on the Jets.

Overall a solid draft by the Rams.

Steelers
1.17 Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia - The perfect pick that fell to the Steelers lap...he's been thoroughly average since being drafted. Not a bust, but not good enough for a Steelers 1st rounder.
2.48 Le'Veon Bell, RB, Michigan State - When healthy he's arguably the best running back in the league. Unfortunately Vontaze Burfict exists, so he's not allowed to leave a Steelers-Bengals game healthy.
3.79 Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State - It took him a little while, but it looks like another hit for the Steelers on a mid-round receiver. Solid #2 receiver with big game potential. There's no doubt he's aided by the amount of options the Steelers have, though...still too many games where he doesn't show his face, but the big games are coming with more frequency.
4.111 Shamarko Thomas, S, Syracuse - Was expected to take over for Polamalu, but went through 2015 largely in neutral. He probably won't be a starter, but he's still quite good in sub packages and is a good depth player to have.
4.115 Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma - A head scratcher of a pick that makes less and less time as time goes on. Noodle-armed and stupid. At least he had that one good game.
5.150 Terry Hawthorne, CB, Illinois - A massive bust, if such a thing exists in the 5th round. Hawthorne had a lousy pre-season to the point where not only did he not make the Steelers, he didn't even make the practice squad. Haven't heard from him since.
6.186 Justin Brown, WR, Oklahoma - Serviceable 5th receiver who eventually got lost amongst the numbers the Steelers had at the position. Picked up by the Bills last year, but spent the season on IR.
6.206 Vince Williams, ILB, Florida State - Good enough to start in this league in my opinion, and he was until Shazier was drafted in the 1st round the following year. Pretty unheard of for a 6th round rookie to start for the Steelers, even if it required injuries to happen. Great depth guy who sees the field plenty in sub packages.
7.223 Nicholas Williams, DE, Samford - Practice squader for the Steelers who has cracked the Chiefs roster.

Despite hitting a foul ball with the 1st rounder and a couple awful mid-rounders, that is a really, really good draft class. An All-Pro, 2 other starters, 1 player good enough to be a starter, an above average back-up, and 3 fringe roster players. B+/A- Grade. The mediocrity of Jones is overwhelmed by Bell...had he lived up to what he was supposed to be this would be an A class.

Honestly, the move has made me less interested in football. The interest is still there, but not as much as it was. As someone who's in their mid 20's, the Rams being here was I all I've known. I'll root for individual players on the team like Donald, Quinn, Gurley, and a few others. But I'd be lying if I said I'm rooting for the team as a whole. The selfish part of me wants to see the above guys mentioned leave via FA as soon as they can and Goff bust harder than Bradford.

But as far as what team I'll root for....haven't decided yet. I'll probably bandwagon a team eventually. I'm a fan free agent

Over the Rainbow
First draft of the Tom Telesco era in SD

Round 1 - Pick 11 - OL - DJ Fluker, Alabama
Considered a reach at the time perhaps a panic move due to the large number of tackles selected in the top 10. Fluker moved inside to guard last season after 2 years of struggling at RT. When he's been healthy he's shown flashes of potential but has dealt with multiple injuries since being drafted.

Round 2 - Pick 38 - ILB - Manti Teo, Notre Dame
Chargers traded up to draft Teo and for the most part that move has yet to pay dividends. Much like Fluker, Teo has struggled with both injuries and inconsistent play. He seemed to improve once Denzel Perryman usurped Donald Butler for the other ILB spot giving charger fans some hope for next season.

Round 3 - Pick 76 - WR - Keenan Allen, California
Like Fluker and Teo, Allen has dealt with injuries since being drafted, unlike his two draft mates Allen - when healthy has been a model of consistency and productivity as Philip Rivers #1 WR. Was on pace to shatter multiple club records last season before a lacerated kidney ended his year early.

Round 5 - Pick 145 - CB - Steve Williams, California
Has yet to earn a starting role with the team, being used mostly as an injury fill in/depth player. Has shown a few flashes of potential and if Brandon Flowers continues to struggle in 2016 he may be in line for a starting spot.

Round 6 - Pick 179 - OLB/DE - Tourek Williams, Florida International
Played a few games in 2013 after Melvin Ingram and Jarrett Johnson got injured. Mostly a special teams guy and with the emergence of guys like Kyle Emmanuel and Jerry Attaochu as well as the team drafting Joey Bosa he's been pushed further down the depth chart.

Round 7 - Pick 221 - QB - Brad Sorenson, Southern Utah
Practice Squad guy, many keep expecting him to win the backup job from Kellan Clemens but he has yet to deliver. Won't be more than a backup QB if even that at the NFL level.

Denver Broncos:

1/27 Sylvester Williams, DT: Showed some flashes in Year 1, meh sophomore campaign, became the starting NT with the switch to 3-4 last year and did well, Elway declined on giving him 5th year. Solid pick.

2/59 Monte Ball, RB: Added to the legacy of Big Ten RB failures. Never broke out and was cut before last season.

3/90 Kayvon Webster DB: Depth player

5/146 Quanterus Smith DE: Injured coming in, never became a blitzer.

5/161 Tavaress King, WR: swiped off the practice squad, never done anything

6/173 Vinston Painter, G: Dud

7/234 Zak Dysert, QB Dud

UDFA CJ Anderson, RB: Very Good RB, made up for the miss on Montee Ball

Ok first pick, good UDFA, Elway's worst draft, C-

Fun fact: I played football in high school with him. Bummed he never made it in the NFL, but at least he had a great college career.

Vikings:

1(23) DT Sharrif Floyd, Florida
-Once thought of as a Top 5 pick, he slid to 23 and was an easy BPA pick here. Has played well, although it seems he's been banged up a lot. Good pick still.

1(25) CB Xavier Rhodes, Florida St.
-The Percy Harvin pick. This is who I wanted at 23 but understood not passing up Floyd there. Was just hoping the Colts didn't take him at 24 and they didn't. He's gotten better each year and has been solid when asked to shadow some elite WRs. I wish his ball skills were a little better, but overall a good pick.

1(29) WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee
-Thought we had a star on our hands after his rookie year but then fell off a cliff when the new staff came in because he can't learn/run a route tree. Arguably the best KR returner in the league, but you don't draft those in RD1 and probably isn't more than a gadget player on offense. Ironically the only one of the three 1sts this year that made a Pro Bowl, even though he's by far the worst player of the three. Leaning more bust than good pick, especially given what they gave up to move up for him. Had they not made the trade up they could've had Keenan Allen at #52 and kept the other 3 (3rd, 4th, 7th) picks they gave up. They didn't pick up his 5th year option, but did for Floyd and Rhodes.

4(120) LB Gerald Hodges, Penn St.
-He seemed to get better each year, but then was for some reason traded to SF back in October for a 6th round pick and a backup C who was inactive all season and probably won't even make the team this year.

5(155) P Jeff Locke, UCLA
-Ughh. Hated wasting a 5th on a stupid Punter, especially after giving up a 3rd and 4th to move up for Patterson and I've been proven to be right. Statistically is one of the worst punters in the league and can't even grasp the concept of "laces out" as a holder anymore. They were better off just signing someone or keeping that loud mouth Kluwe.

6(196) G Jeff Baca, UCLA
-SPIELMAN SAME SCHOOL SPECIAL ALERT! Backup for a year, then cut and is now out of football.

7(213) LB Michael Mauti, Penn St.
-SPIELMAN SAME SCHOOL SPECIAL AGAIN! Good special teams guy/backup. Was eventually replaced by better players and cut at final cuts last year. Signed with the Saints afterwards and is a special teams ace for them. A 7th round pick who's still in the league is considered a success.

7(218) G Travis Bond, North Carolina
-Was on the Practice Squad, signed off it by the Panthers shortly into his rookie year, now with the Blue Bombers.

7(229) DT Everrett Dawkins, Florida St.
-THREE PAIRS OF TEAMMATES DRAFTED FOR THE 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR! Made the practice squad, was eventually signed off it by Dallas and is now in the Arena League.

UNDRAFTED FB Zach Line, SMU
-Figured I mention him since he's been our starting FB for the last 2 years after spending 2013 on the Practice Squad.

-I'm not sure how to grade this draft. I guess a B- is fair? You hit on 2 of your 3 first round picks and the third is at least an elite Returner. Also got a couple backup LBs and your Punter on day 3, even if the LBs are no longer with the team and the Punter sucks.

1-11: OT/OG D.J. Fluker - Solid year as a rookie at RT. Struggled badly in his second year and has been moved inside.

2-38: MLB Manti Te'o - Insert John Harbaugh gif here. He's been an average starter. Chargers gave up their 4th rounder to move up several spots for Te'o.

3-76: WR Keenan Allen - I've been conditioned to dislike everything about Cal, but Allen has been a solid pro. From what I recall, he didn't run fast times during workouts.

5-145: CB Steve Williams - Another Cal pick which I can't formally endorse. Missed his rookie season with a pectoral tear. He's been a depth guy.

6-179: OLB Tourek Williams - Depth/Special teamer

7-221: QB Brad Sorensen - Released a year later, followed Ken Whisenhunt to Tennessee. Came back to the Chargers practice squad towards the end of the 2014 season but was let go soon after.

Tom Telesco's first draft as Chargers GM. The initial returns looked great, but Fluker having to move inside has been a bit of a disappointment.

For the Bills

1- EJ Manuel
2- Robert Woods
2- Kiko Alonso
3- Marquise Goodwin
4- Duke Williams
5- Jonathan Meeks
6- Dustin Hopkins
7- Chris Gragg

Overall this was a fairly average draft. EJ hasn't worked out, but everyone that was drafted is still in the league. It would be interesting how this draft would have been viewed if players stayed healthy.

Cowboys

1. Travis Frederick. A

Great center, one of the best in the league.

2. Gavin Escobar. F

Once again the Cowboys draft a TE in the second round yet make no effort to include him in the game plan. Sure, it's hard to take snaps away from Witten, but the 2 TE offense has been a failure in Dallas.

3. Terrance Williams. B-

Has come up clutch in their playoff games. Has decent speed. Inconsistent showing up on game days. Also, is a body catcher at times.

4. JJ Wilcox. D

Athletic raw safety. Still a raw safety who hasn't improved much at all.

5. BW Webb. F

Lasted a year, got beat out by an UDFA the following offseason and cut. (4th round pick)

6. Joseph Randle. F

Could of been a decent journeyman RB. Was an idiot though, and has more arrests than TDs.

7. DeVonte Holloman. B

He was looking to become either solid depth/pushing for a starting role before a neck injury ended his career. Was a good pick, just got his career cut short.

Outside of Frederick and Williams, another draft for the Cowboys where they get a great player in the first, and not much afterwards.

Overall grade: C-

Jaguars:

Round 1, pick 2 - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M. I remember wanting Dion Jordan with this pick, and while Luke has struggled, I am glad we have him over Jordan.

Round 2, pick 33 - Jonathan Cyprien, S, FIU. Love this pick. Linebacker in a Safety's body.

Round 3, pick 64 - Dwayne Gratz, CB, UConn. Nothing special, but a decent rotational player. Would have liked a more impact player in the third round, but am not complaining.

Round 4, pick 101 - Ace Sanders, PR//KR, South Carolina. I loved this pick at the time, picking up the diminutive firebug, but it never really panned out.

Round 5, pick 135 - Denard Robinson, HB, Michigan. Jury is still out on this, has shown some flashes, but I don't think he will ever amount to anything.

Round 6, pick 169 - Josh Evans, S, Florida. Same thing as Gratz, decent rotational depth guy, but, meh.

Round 7, pick 208 - Jeremy Harris, CB, New Mexico State. Bust

Round 7, pick 210, Demetrius McCray, CB, Appalachian State. For where he was picked, this is actually a decent depth guy.

Issue is Joeckel (& Eric Fisher) were stuck in a weak draft year. there really wasn't any high end talent available. So they were picked higher than they should have, thus making them perennial disappointments.

And back on topic, we have another awful Dolphins draft class. Probably the worst in a long while;

Round 1 - Dion Jordan, DE: In a weak draft class loaded with disappointments and busts, Dion might be the biggest of all of them. Touted as a explosive D-lineman with cornerback speed, the Dolphins traded up looking to give Cam Wake some help on that line. Jordan did nothing of the sort. In his first season, he played very little (to be expected) being mostly used as a rotational player. That's the high point of his career. In 2014, he gets busted for PED's. Suspended 6 games . Came back, again hardly played. Then last year, he gets popped for roids again, leading to a full year suspension. Then, photos of him surfaced last season where he looked to be woefully out of shape. To top this all off, he's yet to be reinstated as of Monday and even though the team wants him back, i doubt he makes a big impact. Colossal bust.

Round 2 - Jamar Taylor, CB: Started 6 games last season and kind of sucked. Now a Brown. Bad pick

Round 3 - Dallas Thomas, T: Holy **** does this guy suck. If not for the existence of teammate Jason Fox, he legit might be the worst tackle in football. Should be tried for attempted murder given how many guys he gave a clean shot at Tannehill. Awful pick.

Round 3 - Will Davis, CB: Who? Has seen little action in NFL, now a member of Ravens. Bad pick.

Round 4 - Jelani Jenkins, LB: Emerged as an ok linebacker, specifically against the run. Is he elite? No, but he competes and is among the Dolphins tackle leaders (God knows he's better than Wheeler or Ellerbe) usually. Solid pick.

Round 4 - Dion Sims, TE: Had promise until Charles Clay emerged. Despite this, Dion is still a reliable dual TE set guy. Good blocker, ok hands. Career highlight to this point was getting his bull rung in a scary looking play last season. Ok pick.

Round 5 - Mike Gillislee, RB: Depth pick. Appeared in 0 games for the Dolphins before being shipped off to Buffalo, where he found a bit of room when LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams got hurt. Still in the league, so ok pick.

Round 5 - Caleb Sturgis, K: Sucked. Made even worse by the Dolphins releasing Dan Carpenter allowing this scrub to take his place. Dan immediately went to Buffalo and proved he was still a pretty good kicker. Bad pick

Round 7 - Don Jones, DB: 15 Career tackles, bounced around the league and is apparently in New Orleans now. Meh, for a 7th rounder you can't expect much.

Draft grade: F

Produced essentially nothing. Jenkins and Sims are ok, but hardly what i would call a big deal.

Patriots

1st Round
Traded to Vikings for picks.

2nd Round
Jamie Collins, OLB, Southern Miss
Steal in the 2nd round. Has rounded into probably a top 5 LB in the league. Makes plays LBs don't typically make, has a tendancy to over pursue sometimes. Great pick.
Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall
Has the size and tools, but just can't seem to put it together, or stay healthy for that matter. Absolutely on the bubble this year with a loaded WR group, and wouldn't be shocked if he gets cut.

3rd Round
Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers
Decent rookie year, bad second year, really rounded into form as a #2 CB alongside Butler last season. Play trailed off a bit late in the year, but still solid all around.
Duron Harmon, SS, Rutgers
Solid depth safety, plays regular snaps on defense and special teams.

4th Round
Josh Boyce, WR, TCU
Nothing special. Has been a practice squad player more often than in the NFL. Wasn't re-signed this past offseason (now with Indy).

7th Round
Michael Buchanan, DE/OLB, Illinois
Played two seasons with NE, solely depth. Showed flashes but nothing great. out of NFL.
Steve Beauharnais, LB, Rutgers
Special teams player, out of NFL.

Notable UDFA's
Joe Vellano, DT, Maryland
Kenbrell Thompkins, WR, Cincinnati
Ryan Allen, P, Louisiana Tech
Josh Kline, OL, Kent State

Overall, I'd give their draft a solid B.

Huge hit on Collins, huge miss on Dobson. Two solid players in Ryan and Harmon, garbage for their final 3 picks in the draft, and some good UFDA signings.

:hu: ? Maybe if AP disappears off the face of the earth.

As a Vikings fan even I'd give it to Bell. AP is a more dynamic runner (albeit maybe more inconsistent on a snap-to-snap basis), but Bell is just ridiculously well-rounded. He's among the very best in the league (if not the best) at rushing, receiving, blocking, and ball security. AP really only excels at the rushing aspect. As a RB sure that's the most important, but Bell's complete game still makes me give the nod to him.
