I would doubt it. Johnson and Allen seem to be getting more minutes in Hartford. AV didn't seem to eager to get him in the lineup during preseason.

It depends on the situation. Falk, Johnson and Allen aren't RD. If its a long term problem he might play sheltered minutes on the 3rd pair until something is sorted out.

Allen played the right side when I watched the Pack on Sunday with Bickel playing up front.

In his preseason games with the Rangers Allen played the right side and looked really good doing it. The guys he paired with were Staal and Falk. Not sure what side he's played on in Hartford but Conor looks like he'd be a pretty good right side d-man.

He's played on the right side of Johnson, Syvret and Nash.

But he's a lefty. Like on the Rangers the Pack are short on righty shots. The only way he's getting top 4 ice time is on the right side.

I didn't realize he played RD in preseason. He played at UMass on the left side.

I don't think the Rangers are really short on righty shots on the blueline. I'd guess two is above or at league average. The Ducks have never had a RHD ever.

Johnson and Allen seem more polished than MCI. I don't think he should be called up any time in the near future.

Lindberg is doing well. He's not a flashy player like Kristo, but he's very consistent and will play in the NHL sooner rather than later.

The Rangers have always had a thing for a lefty-righty pairing.

Smith loved it as much as Sather. Or at least the coaches did.

I think thats why Doug Lidster was 3rd pair RD on the team for what seemed like 400 years.

McIlrath will get called up for a few games this season, so will Allen.

Have to give them a bit of experience. Not more than 5-7 games

Since 1996-97, the Rangers have had 5137 man-games played by left handed shooting defensemen, and 2738 by right-handed shooting defensemen. So their current 4 LHD/2 RHD layout is pretty consistent.

Where do you get these stats?

Subban needs to focus on playing goal and winning the starting job in the AHL... for a first round draft pick.

Teams don't want hot heads as goalies. Thats one of the reasons Tim Thomas is stuck in Florida right now.

They like their hot head goalies up in Boston. Tim Thomas left them for one, and two there are a few hilarious Tuuka Rask stick swinging meltdowns. Subban is fitting into the organizational culture just fine.

4. The answer is 4 years.

Putting aside the fact that I was joking, I didn't say it was 400 years I said it seemed like 400 years. And in all seriousness by the end of the 90's the cup seemed like a few lifetimes ago. The 97-98 season alone felt horrifically long.

Since 1996-97, the Rangers have had 5137 man-games played by left handed shooting defensemen, and 2738 by right-handed shooting defensemen. So their current 4 LHD/2 RHD layout is pretty consistent.

The Rangers started the season carrying at least 3 righty D in '90-'91, '91-'92, '92-'93, '93-'94, '94-'95, '95-'96, '96-'97, '97-'98, '06-'07, '07-'08, '08-'09, '09-'10, '10-'11, '11-'12, and '12-'13.

15 out of 23 seasons.

Every year they've made the playoffs since '91 they've had 3 righty D's, except the year after the '04 lockout.

Every year they missed the playoffs they've had less, except the year before the cup, '97-'98 and '09-'10.

Playoffs with 3 RD = 12/15
Playoffs with less than 3 RD = 1/8

Pretty much every year the Rangers had some semblance of a properly constructed team (i.e. not the end of Smith/beginning of Sather's tenures where they just seemed to throw crap at a wall to see what sticks) they've tried to roll with 3 and 3.

Considering that some teams roll with all lefties and most with less than 3, I don't think its a stretch to say the Rangers put more stock in it than most teams.
