Hello Miller, 5 or 6 times really doesn't count in scouting reports, just ask kitty1992. He knows alot, he's a regional scout.

Um ok? You didnt really address anything that I said.

Point remians, the stats that you posted are not OHL stats as you said they where, plus he was cut from the Sting, so saying that he is a member of the team is not true.

Are you connected to the player at all, it seems that 65-70 percent of your posts are about him, which is fairly rare unless there is a personal interest.

He only counted the first 29 games (where Latta had 10 points) of the OHL season while ignoring the final 32 (where he had 5). The real total is 15 points in 61 games. The bias is pretty clear here I'd say.

Fair enough, glad I was not the only one that saw that.

Just a big fan.

The first 75 kids on the list are probably all gonna stay there, but they'll move around a bit I suppose. After that and especially further down and beyond the 150 mark, it's tough to predict. Some of these players are over-hyped for sure, especially those that haven't played a single minute of junior hockey or have hit a wall when they have done so. If you can't or haven't played juniors, an NHl draft ranking starts to look ridiculous after a while.

I can only assume from Tormenter's list that you're talking about Matheson and Troock (Every other Canadian on the list played junior), if so you're way off base on the over-hyped part. Matheson just made the Ivan Hlinka team and is/was playing midget because he's going the NCAA route.

Branden Troock is a different story as he missed all last year injured. He's a big time talent though, was expected to be among the best of the 16 yr old dub forwards. He has in fact played junior hockey, scoring 6 pts in 9 games as a 15 year old call-up:
http://whl.ca/roster/show/id/1080

I don't really agree that the top 75 will all stay there either, every year there's guys ranked in that range that fall completely off the map.

EDIT- Just to add to what Troock actually did while playing junior, in those 9 games he managed to pull off a "hat trick" of 3 star selections: 1 each- first, second, third.....obviously there's a good reason Redline still has him ranked in the 50's despite missing an entire season.

Actually, I wasn’t talking about anyone in particular, and definitely not only Canadians. There are for sure though plenty of kids (mostly US kids) on the 150 list that haven’t played a minute of junior hockey. And yet they’re on the list. I find that fascinating. IMHO, they ARE over hyped and ranked prematurely if that is the case.

The top ranked kids seem to be the most time tested of the group so far and, at the risk of assuming, seem to be legitimately draftable players. 75 was pretty arbitrary, maybe it’s 50? I don’t know. The NHL draft is pretty tough to predict beyond a certain point. I agree that guys fall off the map every year, but you’d think NHL CSS could do a good job of identifying the top tier of kids, whatever that number is. Of course you'll always have players drafted way down the list that end up being superstars and vice versa.

I put into another post a question about a more complete list of kids—including the combined 150 list here, the nhl.com list and other inputs from individuals. Guess I could dig into that but there seem to be better organizers here already.

I wouldn't get my hopes up, it's hard to change national team (and Henrik has lived his whole life in USA why would he want to play for Sweden?)

As I have read in the papers, he's torn about this matter, I think he would love to play for Sweden, but I guess if he get picked to play in the WJC for the US he will take that chance and that will seal it.

He's already played for the US in an IIHF competition. If he ever plays for Sweden it won't be in an IIHF junior competition as he'll be aged out before he's eligible to transfer.

to what draft in the past years can you compare this draft too?

Don't remember what year but the one with Coburn and Byfuglien. Absolutely stacked with top d talent. Not much after the first round and a half or so, so I'm not sure if that year was like this one in that respect.

I hate these early lists because I firmly believe that a player's draft year is the most important barometer of a player's value (and I realize that sounds incredibly obvious). However, There have been players that have impressed me so much in the year before their draft year that they have held a high spot in my own rankings and never dropped. Pat Kane comes to mind. Everyone loves Yakupov, for good reason, and I do too but I'm also going to say that it won't surprise me one bit if Frk and Forsberg stay in my top 5 all the way up to draft day. Forsberg seems particularly underrated to me.

I use these early lists only as a reference. I don't really pay too much attention to actual rankings because as you mentioned, so much can change.

It's just nice to have one central place to look at who's all actually eligible for 2012.

Isn't the U20 WJC the first tournament relevant to the IIHF standards in this situation?

How do the top 10 players rate compared to the last draft? is there a point where the level of players drop off significantly? I believe the last draft had the top 7 or so players much higher than the next group.

I like the part about Teräväinen:nod: Though Button must be the only person that has mentioned him as a first rounder, so far.

Another Finnish sleeper will most likely be goalie Joonas Korpisalo. He's a big kid at 6'2'' but very raw. He played his first game against men yesterday, when Jokerit U20 beat Finnish Tier-2 team Jokipojat 2-1. That's quite remarkable with the team mostly built of -93 to -95 kids, even one -96. According to the reports, Korpisalo was the star of the game stopping 55 shots and winning it for his team. He's been very good for the national team as well and could be the starter at the U18. Will play with Jokerit U20 this season, so he really won't be in the spotlight in terms of media attention.

Times like this, I wish they did the draft NBA-style where the commissioner calls out the names.
