Markus Granlund makes it 3-2 with the extra-player, but USA puts one in the EN and wins 4-2

Colberg is rock solid. Highly underrated in some camps. He will eventually be a great player in most minds. Skating stride slightly short in my view, but hard work ethic.

Who? Ristolainen?
Czech coaches are not the only ones who made very strange decisions...

Ristolainen is a very good prospect, his skating, physical play and puck skills are on a good level, but at the moment he’s not the best defenseman defensively. He still requires guidance how to work in different situations, and needs to improve his defensive anticipation and decision making. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t have wanted to see him in the team, but I can somewhat understand why he was left out. Training the summer with a SM-liiga team should be beneficial for him and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him playing at the WJC’s in 8 months time if things work out.

Based on tournament in February, he is not worse than Pokka defensively. Plus he is much better skater than Pokka and has excellent puck skills. I really liked Pokka but Ristolainen overall game looked better.

From the boxscore it appears MAX GORTZ scored a goal for Sweden BUT I do not see his name on the official Swedish U-18 team roster for the tournament that was released...DID Sweden use a few players forthis pre-tournament game vs. Canada that were not on the final roster? IF so who from the final roster did not play in the game?

Based on tournament in February, he is not worse than Pokka defensively. Plus he is much better skater than Pokka and has excellent puck skills. I really liked Pokka but Ristolainen overall game looked better.

Ristolainen and Pokka played on the same team at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. They also played against each other in Jr.B (U18) play-offs. In those games Ristolainen’s contribution to the game seemed greater and he was definitely more noticeable than Pokka. On the other hand in Jr.A (U20) Pokka was more reliable defensively despite being clearly slower, and racked up a good amount of points by using his good hockey sense, passing skills, calmness and ability of delivering the puck to the net. Overall Ristolainen has the better tools as a NHL prospect, but at the moment Pokka has qualities that in part are still missing from Ristolainen’s game.

In Jr.A (U20) Pokka played for the 12th placed team, his stats; 32gp 6g+15a=21p (+4). Ristolainen played for the 10th placed team, his stats; 27gp 0g+12a=12p (-20).

Ristolainen suffered an injury during the pre-season which left him sidelined for roughly two months. This could in part explain the difficulties that he had during the season, Pokka and Määttä simply got a head start to the season.

Pokka played two games in the SM-liiga this season, I was able to catch the first game and it quickly became obvious that he needs a lot more speed and better lateral movement in order to be successful at that level. From the 94-born defensemen Määttä might be the most ready to play in SM-liiga, but seeing how stacked his club team JYP is at the moment, he might not get the ice time that he deserves next season. If Ristolainen gets a bit smarter defensively, he should have a good chance of playing in SM-liiga next season, especially since TPS probably won’t have as much depth as Määttä’s and Pokka’s teams.

WELL 2 different boxscores for the 4-3 Sweden shoot-out win over Canada in a pre-tournament game--from the Hockey Canada website it shoes JOACHIM NYGREN and MAX GORTZ scoring goals for Sweden-----but they are not on the final squad Sweden named...Over on the Swedish website swehockey.se they show different scorers for those goals both guys named to the final squad...so I guess Hockey Canada posted erroneous info based on sweater numbers they had from a prior list given them by Sweden before their FINAL roster was named. The site did say JONAS BRODIN did not play in that game bit would be joining the team after the SEL Championship was finished.

Swehockey.se has the right stats, at least when it comes to the Swedish scorers. Swehockey reports that Collberg got a finger injury. I hope it won't stop him from playing...

Must've been from some roster a lot earlier.. Gortz and Nygren weren't at the camp roster, either.

It's pretty embarrassing that the official site of the DEB has no information whatsoever about this, when they are hosting the freakin tournament :shakehead

No reports about exhibition games, nothing about the team assembling - like you can read in the press - or about expectations for this tournament, not even the entry list is available. All they have is the normal page of the U18 team, which mentions games played in Februar and March, but has no list of result since the end of 2010. If you didn't check the IIHF pages, you wouldn't even know that the tournament is about to start.

I definitely agree with what you said above.

It seems like Sweden was dominating against Canada in the exhibition game. They had 43-22 in shots at the net and seemed to play a good game overall.

Feels like Sweden, USA, Canada and maybe Finland are the four nations that have a good shot at the gold medal. The Czech Republic could be a great outsider.
