Thrashers Allstar Nominations

This year I can actually nominate some of my players without laughing. Here are some bright spots on the Thrashers team that should garner some All-Star attention.

Steven Stamkos - 17 goals 34 points, leads the team on the leaderboard for points and goals, the face of the Thrashers.

Drew Doughty - 3rd in scoring for defencemen Leads the team in hits and +/- a true horse that plays in all situations. Also on the leader board for take aways.

Marc Andre Fluery - On the leaderboard for GAA and save percentage, has a 16-9-11 record. We've been to overtime a lot and he is the reason why the Thrashers are in the playoffs.

Honorable mentions go to:

Marian Gaborik 31 points, Simon Gagne 16 goals 30 points 4 game winners.

HFNHL Stars All Star Candidate

Okay the stars dont have many players to pimp but there are some for consideration.

Johnathan Toews

Obvious choice on the team 43 points in 39 games in a team expected to lack offense. Makes hits, block shots, PK and PP time, wins majority of face-offs. Not much else you can ask from a player.

Colin White

Among the top 10 in points, block shots, Plays PK, top 5 minute muncher, and in among the top in take away.

Mikka Kipprusouff

Having a top year top 3 in shots faced and yet boasts a GAA of 2,37 and a SV% of .923 and is one of the reasons the stars are in the playoffs

HFNHL Flames All-Star Promo

1 - Milan Hejduk

Leads the league in goals. 4th in points. Nuff 'Said. He and Datsyuk lead the league in Game Winning goals (he has 2 more than Pavel, with 8)

2 - Pavel Datsyuk

Tied for second in points, second in the league in assists. Makes up the dynamic duo with Hejduk that's led the Flames to the top of the Standings.

3 - Brian Rafalski

Top ten in league scoring for Dmen. Top ten in +- for Dmen. 4th in shots blocked. Top ten in the entire league in minutes played. Getting her done in every situation.

4 - Niklas Backstrom

Best win per game started in the HFNHL. Would lead the league in wins if he played every game like other teams. But DiPietro took 9 starts. 6th in the league in SV% and GAA.

Coach - Brent Sutter

Doing it for real in both the fake and real Flames

That is all.

Seriously, Fisher is a legit candidate as the West's 4th-line center, with food face-offs, hits, +/-(on this team, anyway) and just shy of a point-game pace despite playing reasonable minutes. But that's pretty much the beginning and end of the Jackets' list this year.

HFNHL Hurricanes allstar nominations

The Hurricanes organization would like to send Alexander Ovechkin and Saku Koivu to this years all star game.

Ovechkin is 2nd leading scorer amongst left wingers in the HFNHL behind only Datsyuk. He is also just 3 goals behind the league leader for goals and is pace for over 40 goals this year in the HFNHL. Alex has also brought a physical element this year as he is ranked 14th in the HFNHL in hits.

Koivu leads all Carolina forwards in ice time per game. He has 38 points in 40 games good for 2nd on the club. Also he has taken a lot of punishment this year as he has taken a large number of hits. Saku has been excellent in the face off circle winning 56.41% of his draws.

Canucks All-Star Candidate

There probably is only one All-star worthy Canuck right now and it's Martin Brodeur, who should be the starting goalie for the Western Conference.

The reigning Conn Smythe and Vezina winner has been exceptional for a very disappointing team. He's second in goals against average and save percentage to Ryan Miller (and was first until a 5-goal loss last night), and for a team that has only ten regulation wins and is relying on overtime and shootout victories to compete for the playoffs, he's been huge.

That's it. Martin Brodeur for the Western Conference start. The rest of the Canucks can do a bag skate that day.

For the Ducks, only two players merit consideration:

Mike Cammalleri - 5th among LW in points with 42 (2nd among Western Conference LWs). 3rd in league in goals with 22. 3rd in points per 20 minutes. A surprising 10th in hits.

Jason Pominville - 4th among RW in points with 40. 1st among RW in assists with 29 (4th overall in league). 5th in league in points per 20 minutes.

For Your Consideration

Two Devils deserve All-Star nods.

The first, should be a no-brainer.

Ryan Getzlaf currently leads all Eastern Conference centers in centers. And if scoring the most isn't enough, he is also first in hits among centers, first among all EC players and third in the entire league. He also kills penalties and has 3 shorthanded assists. Clearly he is the top center in the East.

Then there is Shea Weber, deserving but not as obvious.
He has 16 points, which is good, not great. He leads the team with a +9. He is among the leaders in hits with 90, while recording just 7 minor penalties on the season, a pretty amazing feat. Despite playing a ton of minutes and carrying the puck, he has turned it over just 22 times while taking the puck away 31. He is up there in blocked shots as well with 54. He is on the top penalty kill unit. No one number jumps at you, but when you look at the total package, he has been phenomenal this season.

Red Wing All-Star Considerations

Gentlemen the Wings have two stars for your consideration. From the get go the Wings have exceeded expectations and worn out several stretchers with the seeming endless string of injuries that have plagued this team. Despite all this the team continues to hover in around the 4/5 spot in the Western conference and there is a positive attitude within the team.

So who can we credit this too? Really the whole team but 2 candidates deserve a little extra credit.

Guy Carboneau - I don't think that you can call it coincidence that the team is currently in their 2nd rebuilding year and 2nd year of exceeding all expectations. Many kudos are due to the coach for developing a successful system while keeping the teams morale up.

Henrik Lundqvist - Where would this team be with the irreplaceable King Henrik. He may not be in the top 5 GAA goalie leaders but he also doesn't have an elite defense in front of him either. Aside from Gleason and Jovanovski the blueline is made up of guys that many teams would be using as 6/7 dmen. On top of it all the team tries to place an offensive style so Lundqvist faces an above average amount of rubber. He is currently tied for 2nd in save percentage despite having faced the 2nd most shots/gm.
He is truly an MVP type player who is deserving of an All-Star appearance.

He is currently tied for 2nd in save percentage despite having faced the 2nd most shots/gm.

That's not "despite", it's a partial "due to"... the more shots a goalie faces, the easier it is (paradoxically, perhaps) to establish and maintain a high save percentage. This may be in part due to the player being engaged and active in each and every game so they have their timing and are seeing the ice well right from the beginning of a game, or it may simply reflect that only a few shots in a game are quality chances, so the more shots, the more low-odds, stat-padding fodder a goalie faces.

Lundquist still deserves serious consideration for the other reasons you cite.

Senators Candidates

Henrik Zetterberg, 20-24-44 in 40 games, 7 PP, 2 SH, 5 GW

Tied for 9th in the league in goals, onlt trails Ovechkin among East players.

Brian Gionta, 18-19-37 in 40 games, 7 PP, 1 SH, 2 GW.

#1 goal scoring RW in the East. Marleau does not really play that position.

Shane Doan, 12-21-33 in 40 games, +12 , 3 PP, 1 SH, 1 GW

Nicklas Lidstrom, 4-18-22 in 40 games, even +/-, 3 PP

He should start the All-Star game every year! 3rd in minutes played (really 2nd because Robidas has played 3 more games), on the leaderboard with 64 blocked shots. 4th in scoring by defensemen, 2nd in the Eastern Conference.

The Oilers really only have one player worth mentioning thus far...

Paul Stastny - C
Leads the team in goals with 17, assists with 20 and points with 37. Leads all forwards on the team in ice time at just over 21 minutes a game, is a +8 and is amongst the league leaders with 5 game winning goals.

I forgot I should be pimping myself for Eastern Conference GM. I have my club on pace for a 31 point improvement over last season.

Also Joe Sacco for coach for the same reason. However he has the club currently battling for a playoff spot, which nobody predicted would be the case at the start of the year.

For those last minute voters, something to think about.

Ryan Miller: 1st or tied for 1st in the league in G.A.A, Save % and Wins, 2nd in SO's. Nuff said

Jay Bouwmeester: Top 5 in east D-men in scoring, 2nd in +/-, 4th in minutes played, 3rd in blocked Shots

Patrick Marleau: Leads the east in scoring, leads the league in +/-, top 10 in Game Winning goals and 2nd in Game Tying Goals.

Coach Peter DeBoer and GM Joshua Pitt. #1 in the league on points so far despite having to dump #1 D-man Sergei Gonchar and #1 winger Simon Gagne for Picks/prospects.
