Simple question that my friend Google couldn't answer...

When is this year's draft lottery? As in date and time?

    Thanks in advance!!!

That was last year's date. April 13 is a Wednesday this year, so still looking for confirmation on the 2011 date.

The pattern from the last two lottery dates indicates that it's held 2 days after the regular season is finished. So there's a good chance it's held on the 12th of April this year. I don't know for sure though and I dunno what time either. Meh 2 weeks plus some change.

  6. so... I know there have been times where a bottom 5 team didn't win the draft...

will we ever see that again? or does that kill any hype\anticipation?

I am not saying the draft is rigged or anything... I am just saying...

are you asking why the red wings haven't won the draft lottery recently??

  8. no, they been in the playoffs... I am talking about the following...

1995 - Los Angeles (was 7th, moved to 3rd; Ottawa retained 1st overall pick)
1999 - Chicago (was 8th, moved to 4th; Tampa Bay retained 1st overall pick)

Those teams typically have a combined chance of about 25% to win. It's not that unlikely for them not winning especially because the draft lottery is an independent event so odds never change (no cumulative effect).

The NHL will pick a date for it just as soon as they decide who will win.

LOL. If Bettman had a say don't you think Florida or Columbus would have won last year over Edmonton?

If I'm not mistaken, this year's NHL Playoffs begin on the 13th of April. Accordingly, my guess is the NHL Draft Lottery will be held on April 12th on TSN. Following the NHL Draft Lottery, my guess is TSN will have their annual Fantasy Playoff Special and Playoff Preview Special.

If that were true, there's no way Taylor Hall would be an Oiler now.

If the Islanders happen to win the lottery, as an Oilers fan, I would not be mad. At least they are trying to win, and at least they did not gut their roster, unlike Colorado and Ottawa.

Colorado really didn't gut their roster but ran into injuries. Ottawa had to make drastic changes and are winning as a result of getting a goalie.

ottawa's 8-5-0 since the trade deadline.

we got rid of our 3 worst players and two forwards that were really underperforming offensively. The only real 'gutting' we did was trading campoli.
and we added a starting goalie.

ottawa fans may wish we were tanking, but management certainly isnt.

To confirm my original thought, the 2011 NHL Draft Lottery will be held on April 12th, and live coverage will begin at 8pm (ET) on TSN. Please refer to the following link: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=18342
