My Team Canada

Martin Brodeur/Roberto Luongo/Marty Turco
Scott Niedermayer/Rob Blake
Chris Pronger/Adam Foote
Ed Jovanovski/Wade Redden
Robyn Regher
Jarome Iginla/Joe Sakic/Simon Gagne
Brad Richards/Vincent Lecavalier/Martin St. Louis
Rick Nash/Joe Thornton/Dany Heatley
Ryan Smyth/Mario Lemieux/Shane Doan
Todd Bertuzzi

That would be the best team in the tournament. In 30 years people will look back on that team and go wow. There could be as many as 13 Hall of Fame Players on it

Sid shouldn't get a sniff if NHLers are playing.

Why not? If a CBA gets done in time for next season, he'll be playing in the NHL anyway.

This has always been one of my bread and butter points for international hockey. On paper, of course we have the best team, I'm sure not many international fans would disagree. But when you actually play the games, stuff happens. Only in 2004 did the best on paper Canadian Teams actually play like the best team in all their games(World Cup, WORLD JUNIORS)

All these intangibles(coaching, bounces, streaky players, heart, chemistry) can all affect a team's performance.

What about Crosby and Spezza? Do you think they have a chance to get selected?

Swedish team

Sweden should have a really good team. It will probably be the last chance for our "golden generation" to win something big. And I really think we have a strong enough roster to do it. Although Canada of course will be favourites.

Goalies:
Henrik Lundqvist
Mikael Tellqvist
Johan Hedberg
(Stefan Liv)
(Johan Holmqvist)

Defence:
Nick Lidström
Mattias Norström
Mattias Öhlund
Niklas Kronwall
Dick Tärnström
Henrik Tallinder
Kim Johnsson
(Christian Bäckman)
(Daniel Tjärnqvist)

Forwards:
Mats Sundin
Markus Näslund
Peter Forsberg
Jörgen Jönsson
Samuel PÃ¥hlsson
Tomas Holmström
Henrik Zetterberg
Daniel Alfredsson
Daniel Sedin
Henrik Sedin
Marcus Nilson
Fredrik Modin
(Kristian Huselius)
(P.J Axelsson)
(Mikael Samuelsson)
(Mikael Renberg)

Näslund - Forsberg - M. Nilson

D. Sedin - Sundin - Alfredsson

Modin - H.Sedin - Zetterberg

J. Jönsson - Påhlsson - Holmström

For Canada, the lineup you'll likely see

Gagne - Sakic - Iginla (Same line for 2002 and 2004)
Heatley - Thornton - Nash (Gotta love that PF line)
St Louis - Lecavlier - Richards (Tampa line, for quick chemistry)
Doan - Draper - Maltby (TSN's favourite "International checking line" - a bit of a wtf for me)

Marleau, Morrow, Smyth (feel really bad about leaving Captain Canada off, but there's already Doan, Draper, Maltby and Morrow who can do a better job)

Pronger - Redden
Blake - Foote
Regehr - Niedermayer
Bouwmeester
Jovo
Replacement: Hannan

Broduer
Luongo
Theodore

***

However, I would like to see these forward combo's tried...

Nash - Thronton - Iginla (Can anyone thing of a more dominating forward line?)
Heatley - Sakic - Bertuzzi (too bad Bertuzzi's pretty much on the blacklist)
Gagne - Lecavlier - St Louis
Doan - Marleau- Richards
Morrison
Draper

For Finland it could be like this:

Jere Lehtinen-Saku Koivu-Teemu Selänne
Niklas Hagman-Olli Jokinen-Tuomo Ruutu
Ville Nieminen-Niko Kapanen-Sami Kapanen
Jussi Jokinen-Mikko Koivu-Jarkko Immonen

Spares: Valtteri Filppula, Antti Laaksonen, Esa Pirnes, Lasse Pirjetä, Jukka Hentunen, Riku Hahl

Kimmo Timonen-Jere Karalahti
Teppo Numminen-Petteri Nummelin
Sami Salo-Ossi Väänänen
Toni Lydman-Joni Pitkänen

Spares: Janne Niinimaa, Sami Lepistö, Lasse Kukkonen, Aki Berg

Miikka Kiprusoff
Kari Lehtonen
Pasi Nurminen

Spares: Antero Niittymäki, Hannu Toivonen, Vesa Toskala, Mika Noronen, Jussi Markkanen

What do you think? Lydman shoots from the left, so ideally he should be playing on the right...any other flaws or weak points in the roster?

The players of that generation have had their chance. I might not object if Sundin, Forsberg and Alfredsson get picked, but other than that the bulk of that team should be guys born around 1980.

I hope the NHL makes up their mind quickly because if the NHL:ers stay in north america then all the countries have to build their teams in a completly different way, like they used to do before the 1998 Olympics.

Overall, the Czechs have a well rounded team and should be the team to beat. Skill, grit, and a crash and bang defence. They also have the youth to blend in with the veterans.

Holik Elias and Varada will shut down Canada and Russia's top lines.

nobody thinks a guy like Patrice Bergeron can crack this line up? Give him another year of pro hockey and he'll be even better.

Depends on whether he's injury free. Czechs did well without him in both the world cup and world championships.
A team with a bunch of high scoring egoheads will lead to disaster. Just look at the Rangers and the Russians. Everyone wants to carry the puck and take it end to end.

If all teams do have their top players this should be extremely close. Russia, Canada, Sweden, Czech Republic, and to lesser extents, the U.S., Slovaks, and Finns all could have some very very good rosters.

Here's my Team Canada Roster:
Forwards(13)- Joe Sakic, Jarome Iginla, Simon Gagne, Joe Thornton, Rick Nash, Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, Dany Heatley, Ryan Smyth, Shane Doan, Brad Richards, Patrick Marleau, & Mario Lemieux(if Lemieux can't play then bring in Crosby, Carter, Spezza, or Bergeron as the 13th forward, for the learning experience, preferably Spezza due to the fact I think he would be better if thrusted into action.)

Mario Lemieux-Joe Sakic-Jarome Iginla(#1 Line at World Cup)
Simon Gagne-Joe Thornton-Rick Nash(Dominant Line at World Championship)
Brad Richards-Vincent Lecavalier-Martin St. Louis(All TB should = instant chemistry)
Ryan Smyth-Patrick Marleau-Dany Heatley(Heatley & Smyth appear to be good & Marleau is the best center available, IMO)
13th Forward: Shane Doan

Without Lemieux:
Brad Richards-Joe Sakic-Jarome Iginla
Simon Gagne-Joe Thornton-Rick Nash
Ryan Smyth-Vincent Lecavalier-Martin St. Louis
Shane Doan-Patrick Marleau-Dany Heatley
13th Forward: Jason Spezza

Defense(7)- Eric Brewer(really impressed with his World Cup performance), Scott Niedermayer, Wade Redden(same as Brewer, except World Championship instead), Ed Jovanovski, Adam Foote, Chris Pronger, and Rob Blake

Defense Pairings- ??????? I'm no good with defense pairings.

Starter- Martin Brodeur
Back-Up- Roberto Luongo
Third String- Jose Theodore

City once voted as F
I think it's really weird if Crosby would make team Canada. I mean, the kid hasn't played a single game against real men, and you guys would be willing to throw him in in the most competitive tournament! I understand he's a phenomenal talent, but stop kidding yourself. If there's no NHL, he's going to get wrecked in the olympics. Don't think he should be there even if NHL is played.

Can the NHL UFA's be at the Olympics even if there is no CBA? Cause they arent really restricted being UFA's.

Im just asking: Can UFA's be at the Olympics when signed players wont be?
