Well this team has size and skills. Two important assests in the defensive era.I don't know many nations who will win the goal medal when Canada will have a team like that.

I don't think Lemieux will be there in 2006.
Pencil in Tanguay in place of Lemieux if he isn't around. Tanguay is a natural left wing.
There has been speculation that Lemieux want's to play two more years, so these Olympics could be his last hurrah.

Obviously anything could happen the next two years, injuries etc...
However this very well could potentially be a lineup.

A 36 year old Blake will still be better than Jovanovski.

Phaneuf will be 21 years old by then. Obviously he is a wild card. If he progresses like some people think, he could be there.

People are pretty divided on Jovo. I happen to be one of those people who believe our World Cup team just got better a few days ago.

Every time he gets the puck in his own zone, I cringe.

Crosby will only be playing a half of a season that year before the Olympics. He has to prove that he can play against the big boys in his first year...

I recall this same argument prior to the WJHC last year. If he tears it up in the NHL for half a season like he did the Q (not saying it will happen) he'll be on the team.

If a 24 year old Robyn Regehr is on the team I think a 26 year old Regher would make it.

Phaneuf will be a stretch.

You are right.
If Phaneuf and Bouwmeester step up, canada will be so deep on defence. Basically you can't go wrong.
Niedermayer will indeed probably be there. Regehr could also. Just keep Jovo off.

I highly doubt Crosby or Phaneuf will be on the 2006 team. If the team is announced in November as was the case in 2002, Crosby will have about 20 NHL games under his belt at the time. Phaneuf is good, but he won't be one of the top 8 Canadian defenders in the NHL at age 20 after 1 season.

Basically the team will be almost the same as the current one ... Lemieux will likely be gone and Sakic probably won't be the same player he is now. Add a Rick Nash or someone like that. Defense will be damn near identical. Brodeur will probably still be in goal. I don't think that will make it the greatest ever, or give us a guaranteed gold medal. Heck, I don't even think it's any better than the team now (if everyone was healthy) ... Lemieux's influence is huge and that will be sorely missed.

Even if Crosby and Phaneuf don't make it, it will still be a superior team.
Add Bertuzzi, Nash, Pronger, Blake,
Bouwmeester and Lecavalier will most likely be better.

If Crosby dazzles in his first half year, he has a chance. Gretzky seems to love the kid.

I personaly think the biggest wild card is Brad Stuart

We know he has the talent
if he can just put it together he will be a lock for team

he can be that good
I remember when he was in the WHL he was the fastest skater and had the hardest shot in the all star game.
He is a wild card for sure if he keeps on improving after his injuries.

By say, 2008 Spezza could be the center that replaces Joe Sakic for Canada's National team.
Our Centers would be something like:

Crosby
Thornton
Lecavalier
Spezza

I think the roster should go like
Doan - Thornton - Iginla
Richards - Lecavalier - St.Louis
Heatley - Spezza - Bertuzzi
Nash - Sakic - Smyth

3 Subs are: Crosby, Marleau, Tanguay

Defence:
Chirs Pronger
Jay Bouwmeester
Rob Blake
Scott Nidermayer
Eric Brewer
Wade Redden

3 Subs are: Adam Foote, Dan Hamhuis, Dion Phaneuf

Goalies
Roberto Luongo
Martin Brodeur
(Sub) M.A Fleury

Also why are people not putting Brad Richards in the Canada Lineup, hes awesome, also i dont think Crosby will make the intial lineup, if theres a lockout this season(or even if there isnt) he will have had 1 season under his belt and unless he scores HUGE numbers in that season i doubt he'll make the squad.

Nice list.
Richards is a centerman, so there is little room for him.
Also it is insignificant if there is a lockout next year because Crosby will be playing in Rimouski.
