Outside of an own goal, Italy's backline in 2006 didn't concede until the final either. There's no doubting their record but they don't have 2 bonafide GOATs in their position like Sacchi's Milan.

Italy's backline in 78 is a good shout but I prefer the 82 squad with Bergomi that took down possibly the greatest national squad of all time. I've never seen anyone man mark someone harder than Gentile on Zico :laugh:

I feel like Messi and Beckenbauer are kind of in the same situation in their threads. If you consider him a CB than it’s clearly Der Kaiser, but obviously he played a different role than what most CB’s have done historically.
