Maybe for the price it would take to get McD we get green and hjalmerson instead? just a thought.

Hjalmarsson can probably be had for futures and a guy like Dotchin. McDonough probably takes Sergachev. At this point I say f*** it and do it. People seem to forget that we can re-sign him for like $6.5 million and it would damn near double his NYR salary. He's gonna be 31 when he's a UFA, the dude isn't gonna get this massive Stamkosian contract like people think. He'll get somthing like $6.5 x 5 years which we can absolutely afford with wise cap management and dumping a few contracts

Would rather have Boyle back in the bottom 6.

Would also rather get Hjalmarsson than any other defenseman available or rumored l, or thought to be available. Tonight sold me on the fact that our left side is worse than our right. Not by much. Sergachev needs to be the LD on the bottom pairing or the 7th guy. His laziness and inexperience will be Boston's dessert. Or anybody's for that matter. At least Coburn finds himself in the defensive zone when hes smoked, not Ser-pinch-a-chev, he's in the neutral zone. Coburn is poor but it is what it is, a bottom pairing defenseman. Maybe KK could alleviate it.

I'm doubtful we suddenly grab two defenseman so after seeing tonight's trainwreck, get ready for more Dotchin or Girardi in the top 4. The only way to tighten this group defensively is two defenseman, one left and one right. Short of That (which isn't happening by the deadline [grabbing two that is]) we are going to have issues. Especially if Vasy doesn't play like Hasek every night.

Hedman - Dumbass
Pinchachev - Stralman
Coburn - Girardi
KK/Sustr

God help us.

Thats true, but I still think we need to add a big forward/faceoff guy. I see our guys get out muscled too often.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Yzerman ends up waiting too long and McD goes to someone like Boston. I'm all for taking your time and making the right decision but I hate to see the competition (especially in our own division) add pieces while we stand pat.

Since we made the finals we've been Jekyll and Hyde every year.
2016: Stumble and do the bare minimum to get into the playoffs, and then flip a switch and make the conference finals.
2017: Struggle mightily until the hole is too big to overcome, and then proceed to go on a 30 game hot streak which isn't enough to make the playoffs.
2018: Build a massive lead in the standings and then fall into a shell (recent slide).

I think we just have to be patient and ride this out but it's frustrating that this team can get so lazy for such long stretches. Maybe we're too talented for our own good. We should bring back "safe is death"

Agree with all of that. The Jekyll and Hide routine has gotten really old though and the seemingly inability to put together 3 full periods doesn’t fill me with confidence this team can make a deep run.

When we bring back “safe is death”, can we please bring back Torts? God I miss him.

Pls no, he is way too slow.

1. Vanek
2. Nash
3. Maroon (Especially if Boston is going to add him)
4. Grabner

Doesn't address our faceoff problem but does Yzerman care? He waived Dumont, has been scratching Peca, traded Boyle and doesn't seem to find the urgency to get a faceoff specialist so I'm more doubtful he gets a center than I am he gets a big body. At least there are rumors we have interest in Maroon. Maroon may be slow but he would be a welcomed body when we are up against the Bruins or whoever and we have tiny forwards getting face washed and slashed for an entire series.

I fear that too. What's bad is whatever Boston does to make them stronger puts them that much further unless we grab one of the top names (regardless of who it is).

If McD winds up in Boston and puts them over the edge that would be an AWFUL mistake by Yzerman.

I've just been messing around with the idea of Sergachev for McD. If thats the trade straight up i'm wandering about how it might pan out. Yeah we lose a young defensemen with 1st d potential but we get to keep guys like Foote, Raddysh etc. Like I said, just playing around with the idea.

Sorry - we both want what's best for our team. My bad. We are Bolts together. We just disagree a little on where we are at. The effort needs to be turned up a lot. Home ice is huge. We need it. We need to want it more. Just MHO.

Nite dude.

Seems like there's still some on here that are cool with making minor moves and staying in good-but-not-great limbo as long as we don't give up too much and stay consistent for years...

I'm not with this. The goal is to win it all, not just be consistently good.

Yzerman needs to nut up and put it all on the table. Now's the time. Once Palat gets back we have a 100% healthy team with a core (Stamkos, Kuch, Hedman, Vasi) thst are all playing well. On top of that, we're still sitting with home ice in mid February. NOW'S THE TIME.

He won't cost Boston any less than he'd cost us. That's the point.

That's not necessarily true, Boston stands to be in great shape cap wise in a couple of years unless they plan to break the bank for all these young players they have. If we don't make the move we're f***ed anyway having to better these guys.

It's not just cost of acquisition we need to be worried about here

Yes but the biggest problem is where he ends up. If it's Boston, then that will royally suck.

He's a better defenseman than Hjalmarsson and any other defenseman we can get but as the 2nd pairing LD, I'd take Hjalmarsson and see what else we can do without having to give up top prospects or cut up Syracuse for one defenseman (albeit a great one).

If I was Yzerman, I would get Green simply to get Hedman off the first PP because all he does is take shots that rarely best the first set of shin guards. Aim towards getting Hjalmarsson, who by the way we missed for peanuts during the offseason. Also add a forward with some size that can score, see Vanek, who is having a good season and is at a low cap hit.

We can be stronger with those three additions while losing a few more assets, maybe even a couple roster players like KK, Dotchin or Sustr, who are basically rotated extras while improving as a whole. Only downer is Hjalmarsson is already 30 and sits on a 4 million cap hit for three more years. If we could move Coburn in a trade and slide Sergachev down to the third pairing with Girardi I'd be down with that.

I think;

Hedman - Stralman
Hjalmarsson - Green
Sergachev - Girardi
Whoever as 7th

Is stronger than

Hedman - Dotchin
McD - Stralman
Sergachev - Girardi
Whoever

Though that's a fantasy cause I can't recall the last time a team made a move to acquire two top 4 defenseman at the TDL in recent history, let alone via trade in a season.

Yzerman needs to go for it. Tired of coming up short. I don't want to look back in a few years and say damn, we had such a great team when Stamkos and Hedman were in their prime but we just couldn't get it done.

If he goes to Boston we just have to hope they traded someone it turns out they needed more, thus wrecking their chemistry. And then McD has one of his patented long term injuries and suddenly it turns out that great trade imploded their team! Muahahaha
