Simply put who do you vote for Norris this year right now based on their play and if the season ended now.

People can allow for slight adjustment given some teams have played 36 games and some only 31.

After this poll I hope to do one for second place to get a snapshot as we turn into the new year.

Please also suggest the next Dman to add to the next poll.

It's Hughes pretty unanimously right now.

That +28 is pretty damn impressive.

Makar is right there with him on a per game basis, but has 5 less games played. Maybe over 82 games, that extra 5 games isn't a difference maker, but this early in the season it is.

Hughes #1
Makar #2
Nobody else is close to them, really.

Who do people want to add for the next poll?

I'll probably make the next poll in around 7 or 8 hours.

Hughes
Makar

In that order. Two horse race. Hughes in the lead as the Canucks were expected to be a bubble team at best and he’s been the best player on the team.

Hughes is pretty much the best D in the league this year so far.

His underlying numbers are impeccable, he holds the puck more than any other NHLer, his +/- is very good, leads defensemen in points and goals, and most importantly he has the media narrative going for him. He's the first year captain of a struggling Canadian franchise who came out swinging and is first in the league after putting the team on his back.

Makar, the closest competition, is surrounded by a team that can't seem to get things done this year, and a narrative of being injury prone.

Suggestions on who to add for the next poll second place right now for Norris?

A small edge to Hughes right now but he’s cooled off a lot lately. If Makar hadn’t missed time it would be him. Hughes needs to play a bigger role on the pk if not Makar wins it in the end.

I actually agree with this except the PK part.

Hughes is the frontrunner. He's cooled off lately compared to the beginning of the season.

Makar was red hot before his injury. He probably would've surpassed Hughes.

That being said, Hughes doesn't need to play more on the PK, he's controlling the play shift in and shift out on the #1 team in the league.

I wouldn't count Makar out of this race however, there's still plenty of time.

Hughes has taken a projected playoff bubble team and has them in the hunt for the Presidents Trophy.
He’d be the leader regardless of Makar missing a few games.
As for playing Hughes on the PK, he already plays more minutes than Makar per game. Adding additional minutes doesn’t seem like a wise move when he has been so instrumental in the Canucks success to date.

The fortunate thing for Makar is that voters have shown that they are perfectly willing to consistently nominate him as a finalist, even while missing chunks of a season (twice a finalist with 21-27% of a season missed).

Hughes will have to keep this up all year to win Makar will need to play fewer than 60 games.

I’m an admirer of Makar, but he is given heavy consideration regardless of what he is or isn’t doing, and that’s a hard thing to fight against sometimes.

Makar needs to stop being frail Cale and playing so pathetically little at even strength.

He shouldn't even get a 5th place vote with his paltry ice time.

This shit is why I say he's the most overrated player in the league.

Norris voters, the makar fanboys among them, will also look at a two horse race and start ranking Hughes 4th or 5th or just leaving him off their ballots. Josi was already robbed by that bullshit.

How close in points to the forward scoring leader would quinn/makar need to get to grab the hart? 15 points?

Would be interesting seeing an 82 games healthy makar.

Don’t act like he’s doing it by himself, Demko, Miller and Pettersson and co are all playing insane right now.
