That's not an easy question. Concerning this age group, someone attending the camp might be able to give some sort of an answer to that question at the end of the week.

From the players that I’ve seen personally Ville Husso and Kevin Lankinen seemed to have the required quickness and athletic talent to become good goalies someday. You don’t have to watch them for long to understand that. Maybe Husso has more potential because he's taller, but otherwise I don't see much difference between them.

One player whose stats aren’t that brilliant, but has a high potential is forward Eetu Koivistoinen. He has skill, size and skating ability. If he keeps working hard and gets some consistency to his game, he might become someone that we talk about in few years.

Naturally there are plenty of promising players in this age group that I haven't seen or don’t even play in C-SM yet, so this is the best that I can do right now. It will get a bit easier to evaluate these players next season, once some of them start playing regularly in Jr.B where the competition is far greater.

I agree you with Eeetu Koivistoinen, we will hear from he in future. He has been injured few times in the near future and that is the reason why hes stats aren`t so briliant at the moment.
We can not forget Juuso Ikonen. He is very talent and we will hear from he also.
There is one goalie I have to remind you Christoffer Hernberg, he is talent and has good size also.

Yep, Juuso Ikonen is a talented centre forward, no doubt about it. One of the top Finnish forwards in this age group at the moment. Good mobility and offensive imagination. Hopefully he will grow some height in the future. His name is no longer on the Pohjola camp roster, so is he injured?

Is Sasha Barkov Alexandrs son? He seem to have nice stats. Barely 2013 draftee. Alexander was a big player like 6'3 or so. Lets hope Jr. grows too How is hes skating? Seems to be weak age group for defense once again.

Yes, he's Aleksander Jr.

How is hes skating?

Maybe not as good as Juuso Ikonen's or Aleksi Mustonen's, but still fine. The only player from these top scorers that I've seen with clear problems with skating is Lukko's Jere Friberg.

Seems to be weak age group for defense once again.

Maybe you know better, but I wouldn't make that conclusion yet. One thing is for certain, not much is required from the defensive crop to be better than the 92's or 93's.

Lawman Jeffrey, very effective and has good size also.
Julius Valtonen, good size and skating.
Timi Lahtinen, good size and hands.
Jani Elgbacka, good size , hand and pass.
Anton Heikkilä, effective and have good skating and pass.

If you have good size then you have big advantage, otherwise you have to be like Juuso Ikonen.

Can someone tell me, how the hell can a DEFENDER the size of Honka play against forwards like Koivistoinen and Lahtinen?!? That's just ridiculous

As a Jokerit fan I'm naturally interested in our juniors, so can someone tell me something about Kuronen, Mustonen, Lahtinen, Ojantakainen and Kivelä? Also would like to hear about the 96-born(?) Jokerit twins. Finland's Sedins?

Well if you want to compare it to Vatanen(175/75):

Koivistoinen is about 18% taller than Honka, and Vatanen+18% is something like 206cm... Not a lot of those in finnish hockey.

And if you mean weight; Koivistoinen weighs almost 53%(!) more than Honka, and Vatanen+53% is about 115kg.

So... 206cm/115kg guys are quite rare even in Sm-liiga.

Nice job on missing my original point, which was that the size different is so huge that there's really no players, at least in Sm-liiga, to compare it to. You said Vatanen so I just informed you that Vatanen isn't even close to the size difference between Koivistoinen and Honka...

Anyway jokerit67 you asked HOW... I answered how. If you lack size you have to make up for it in other ways. Skating, positioning, stickhandling, balance, grit etc. Those are the attributes that small defenders, like Honka, need in order to be successful.

Keep in mind that we're not talking about basketball. Size matters but it's not all that counts in ice hockey.

I was just wondering, there will be this 95 World Selects Invitational played in Finland in April. Aong others there also is a "Finland Selects" team and I was just wondering whether it is an official selection from the Finnish federation or some else kind of a team? I have to admit, I don´t even have any idea what kind of a team the "Slovak Stars" team that is also participating is.

I have until now looking at this age group players and there seems to be lot of intresting players based on statistics. Juuso Ikonen did nine goals on seven games in world selects invitational tournament and his stats in C-juniors was great there too. Other interesting prospect is Eetu Koivistoinen because of his size. Really unsual finn. Tormentor already has told something about these guys so I dont need information about them. Third interesting prospect is Jonatan Tanus and here wasn't nothing information about him so if someone could tell me something that would be great! MVP of the Pohjola camp, great stats in C-juniors and captain of the Tappara. Sounds good.

This age group is very interesting. There is many guys playing in jr. a already and putting good numbers. is there any first round talent for 2013 draft? i know it is too early too tell but there isn't much hype around these guys. Juuso Ikonen seems to be quite skilled. He is very small tho. Jonathan tanus seems to be very skilled aswell and has room to grow. There is big and skilled koivistoinen who has big size but how is his skating? So there's sasha barkov who is really mysterious. Has almost PPG in jr. A as 15 years of age. Doesen't fit in WHC u-17 team? If someone knows better i'd like to hear their strengths and potential. And how you guys would rank them. At this point this age group could be best in many years.

The Finnish 2013 NHL Draft prospects that I like the most - at the moment - are Rasmus Ristolainen, Ville Husso and Aleksandr (Sasha) Barkov. If they stay healthy and work hard, 1st round could be within a reach in 2013. Ristolainen is a mobile two-way defenseman, Husso is a highly athletic goalie and Barkov is an intelligent centre forward. Saku Salminen and Eetu Koivistoinen are also worth keeping an eye on, both of them have size and skill, but it’s too early to tell whether they’ll be drafted or not.

So far I’ve watched Finland’s first 3 games (Exhibition game against Ontario, and preliminary round games against USA and Quebec) from the WU-17 Hockey Challenge through Fasthockey.com. From the four 95-born Finns there - Jimi Kuronen, Juuso Ikonen, Jonatan Tanus and Artturi Lehkonen - Ikonen has been the most impressive. The other 3 have also played fairly well. Of the three forwards; Ikonen, Tanus and Lehkonen, Lehkonen is clearly the tallest one and could very well develop into a good player once he bulks up, his puck skills are good. Ikonen and Tanus have a lot of tenacity, but at the moment they are far too small to be considered NA prospects.

I´m very interested to know which players might be the best at the moment in the 1995 -born age group after the best players like Aleksander Barkov, Ville Husso, Juuso Ikonen, Artturi Lehkonen etc. From what I have seen, Ilves defenseman Mikke Levo is a good player. He is an intelligent defenseman and has offensive skills, plus he has played international games for Finland. Also Jokerit forward Kasperi Ojantakanen is a good player. He has good skills with the puck and a good shot. I´m looking forward to see him playing more this season. TPS defenseman Matias Pulli has played well by looking at his points; however, I haven´t seen him playing yet. Also Jimi Kuronen from HIFK is a D who I would like to see this year. Aleksi Mustonen, a forward from Jokerit, is a player who has good potential.
