In 1987, I was three years old so you can imagine I missed a lot of great hockey and great players of the 1980's. I recently bought Blade Wars, which is the DVD set of the 1987 Canada Cup, Canada vs. USSR and I am amazed about how much different hockey was back then. Even though the team I watch, the Vancouver Canucks is known for playing a more wide open offense first entertaining style of hockey they do not even come close to the game I have watch so far. Now, I realize that these are the two best hockey nations at the time, but it seriously seems to go 3-4 minutes without a stop in play, the game actually has flow. They need to bring that back to the NHL because this so much more entertaining. Was the NHL like this as well (in 1987) ? with large periods of time without constant stoppages in play? P.S. Is it just me or did Mario Lemeiux seem like a giant compared to most players back then?
