■ Berglund — “Our Swedish scouts were on top of him. They think he’s a mobile D. He is skilled, ultra-skilled, and he skates well. Small, a 6-footer, but our scouts were pounding the table for him, and we went along with it. We might have something there. We talked to his coach after the pick and he’s working on putting on some muscle and weight.â€

Good that he is a right shot. The defense prospects are overloaded on the left.

This sounds like the yearly round 6/7 PJ pick.

2013 - Blidh is still the best NHL pick of the Bruins from that draft--though there are 3 still with Boston that could exceed him.

2014 - Johansson is signed and will likely start in the AHL this year.

2015 - No late Swede taken. (Bruins did take USHL/NCAA JFK in 2nd)

2016 - Steen hasn't found offense in the SHL but against age peers in the U19 he had 9 points in 4 games.

2017 - Berglund is an August birth date 17 year old that put up respectable numbers in the J20 Swedish league. It will be interesting to see what kind of player he is 30 lbs stronger and 2 years later.

Don't forget Pastrnak was also taken from Sweden, although he wasn't a late pick.

In this ho hum draft the only one I am somewhat excited about is Victor Bergland. The reaction by the European scouts who have seen him most, give me comfort that Vic could be a player for the future. Right shot too.

With Monday being the deadline for players under contract next season for teams in countries that have transfer agreements with the NHL to sign an NHL deal, there have been quite a few signings today. Boston has joined in on the action as CapFriendly reports that they’ve signed defenseman Victor Berglund to a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal carries an AAV of just over $818K before performance bonuses and breaks down as follows:

2020-21: $775.5K salary (including signing bonus), $70K AHL salary, no performance bonuses
2021-22: $835K salary (including signing bonus), $70K AHL salary, $15K performance bonuses
2022-23: $842.5K salary (including signing bonus), $70K AHL salary, $82.5K performance bonuses

Article speculates that Berglund is heading to Providence instead of the playing in the Swedish Elite league, that might be a mistake on Berglund's part, again nothing is confirmed
Good signing though

His weight is up and he filled out a bit, but he’s still rather slender dating back to this time last year.
