I wonder if he's able to remain in shape. He seems light as a feather. Show me what you got...

Not doing badly.

Anyone watched him?

I was just checking out our draft picks and what they are doing this morning... Not much talk on Stapley but he is off to a great start with UOD with 7 pts in 7 games with 2 goals. Right handed center.

Was going to ask the same question... Anybody see him play and can comment towards the eye test?

Denver's schedule has been very light to so far so we'll see how he does in the 2nd half, I really like his playmaking abilities, haven't seen him yet this year but should get to see him this weekend. Good offensive skills but needs to fill out, get stronger.

Can't fine the Stapley thread so posted this here.... can a mod help me out and move it to the Stapley thread? I looked for a search option but can't find any?

Stapley with 9 pts in 9 games with UOD in his 2nd year as a 20 year old. Is he another Evans type?

Keep in mind that Stapley is only a month younger then Poehling. He's more skilled then Evans but no where near as good defensively. He's more of a PP specialist as he lacks strength, mass. He's got some decent offensive skills though, I haven't seen him this year yet as he's one of the last prospects I need to see before I finish my rankings but don't feel like paying as I got to see a good bit of him last year.

that's been his game, last year only 3 players had more assists on his team and that's with him missing just under a quarter of the season to injury and he wasn't the same when he came back.

This year he's got more assists then he had points last year in 1 less game. He's 1 pt behind the 2nd leading scorer on the team and is tied for the team lead in assists. He also leads the team with a +14. The downside is that he has only 5 goals after getting 5 last year, he's needs to get stronger but he's at one of the best programs in the NCAA so they can take their time with him and let him play all 4 years at Denver.

CH : Brett Stapley, l'émule de Jake Evans? There are parallels drawn between Stapley and Evans. A scout consulted for this story mentions that odds are good that he'll make the NHL but he doubt he's the type of player that a team good enough to play in June should have, just like for Evans. Says Stapley is the faster of the two but Evans is also the smarter one. He's first and foremost a playmaker. He's got good vision and hands. He's also deceptive and good at manipulating other defenders. He's able to open his own passing lanes. His decision making is good for the most part, he doesn't overpass. He had 83 shots this year (so 2.37 SOG per game). His homework for this summer is to work on his accuracy and how fast he can get his shot off. If he can score more goals, it'll make him harder to defend. He's pretty good on faceoffs apparently. He needs to gain weight but he's not afraid to get into traffic. His program has a good reputation for developing players (Bozak, Butcher, Carle, Butler, Colborne, Heinen, Mayfield, T. Moore, Stastny, Terry, Zucker).

he needs to add a lot of strength and some mass, he's a solid playmaker for sure, can't say I really agree on him being an NHLer just yet as he's only a month younger then Poehling. He's a solid NCAAer but needs to show a good bit more next year.

Low Risk, High Reward - Late Round Picks Who Could Become Important Players: Brett Stapley
Stapley is a very important player for the Pioneers as he’s relied upon heavily at times on the special teams and as earned that trust of head coach Carle. He’s much closer to turning into a player to Evans; defensive-minded, puck control and all-around responsibility, than he is to becoming a breakout star but he still has a little bit more development left in the NCAA before he transitions to the pros as an AHL player.

What Stapley brings to each and every practice as well as each game is his continuous dedication to his craft. He’s very consistent, takes care of every detail, and a good powerplay specialist on the right wall. His progression from his first to his second year was felt in every facet of his game. He recorded 11 more points, shot 35 more times, and finished with a better plus/minus differential.

On top of his intangibles, he owns a great skating technique, and good hands and with those two combined he can move the puck well up the ice. He also owns good hands and has made impressive passes over his young career that have made him into a threat at any moment.

Brett could end up being more than a utility/complimentary forward but I’d expect him to end up as a support player with specialization. He has the tools to be more than a 4th liner but not enough to produce at a 2nd line level, so maybe an every day 3rd liner which is great value from a 7th round pick. He still needs some time but don’t be surprised with his year 3 progression should he unlock a hidden aspect of his game which we haven’t seen yet.

He's interesting for sure but we have to keep in mind he's a month younger then Poehling. He badly needs to add strength and mass, but he's trending in the right direction at least. Plus it helps that he's at one of the best programs in the NCAA.
