Adam Silver really is out here running laps around all the other commissioners. It's too bad each sport doesn't have an innovative person in charge who really gets it like the NBA does.

You'll know I'm right when the games begin.

So is that what its about really? You being right?

What if the games are pretty entertaining?

Obviously, any sport at all outside of maybe the NFL the 19-20 championship has a bit of an asterisk next to it. Not cause of cheating like the Astros/RedSox/Baseball but just cause of the gap between the season, the amount of teams allowed into the playoffs...

Pandemic asterisks championships! It's almost a different badge really.

It's different than every other year but still worth watching if you want to be entertained by Hockey/Basketball. I think leagues would be doing a dis-service to the public/fans not playing when fans/people have nothing to do.

Got a cliff notes version or link of what he's doing?

I mean, it's everything really. His idea to set up a bubble in Orlando and how well-thought out that plan is. Not being totally tone-deaf like other pro sports, in respect to the BLM movement and allowing players to feel like they are being heard and respected. I have a lot more confidence in the NBA coming back and finishing their season than I do the NHL.

Coronavirus: How NBA's Adam Silver may have saved sports from itself

NBA boss Adam Silver faces the league's biggest challenge ever to restart the season, but insiders say he's prepared

Not such a well thought out plan. Did he give any thought to the notion that Orlando does not have nearly enough topless bars or escorts to handle an entire professional sports league? :sarcasm:

But seriously, I do agree, he does seem to be far more in touch with his players and far ahead of other sports leagues in dealing with this issue. Thanks for the links. Good reads.

I still doubt this actually happens.
That's also possible. If there's another lockdown, it makes little sense to ask players to play.

Nothing to do? There's other things in life. I want to watch sports as well, but not in gimmicky format. Lately, I've been watching vintage games on TV. So I'm getting my hockey fix that way.

Just let sleeping dogs lie and move on to the 2020-2021 season.

Huh. So you are pacified by watching vintage pre-determined games but find current live action games objectionable. I can't fathom why no one is on the same page as you.

Plenty of posters in this thread are on the same page as me. Read through the thread before making false statements.

I don't share your fervor for the quality of the product, but I'd be totally fine shutting it all down and starting fresh next year.

I think that may be the best thing, honestly, but I know there's just too much money involved for them not to try.

RabidBadger Publishing Inc. is offering a correction to all 5 of my readers regarding a statement made 6/18/20 that "no one was on the same page" as GMR. Upon further review of the evidence, the editor deemed it necessary to add "virtually" in front of the said statement.

It is always the intent of RBP Inc. to disseminate accurate information. I ask you, the reader (there's probably only one), to a be understanding of this error and I hope to maintain your trust when viewing further posts.

Speaking of money, how will teams generate revenue without playoff ticket sales?

I think you're underestimating the amount of revenue they will lose having to do the first half of whenever next season is for free in terms of ads. I believe the numbers were they hope to recoup 400 million of the 1 billion dollars they lose by completing the season without fans versus not completing it at all. You also have to consider their TV partner in the US that they are about to renegotiate with next off-season is desperate for the content having cleared all that space for the postponed Olympics.

While they lose about 1.7 to sometimes over 3 million per game in revenues, to completely cancel would be costly. The players would have to balance this out in escrow. The reason the PA and NHL have been pretty high on restarting has a lot of basis in the financials of it and that might bother some people. I also think a certain amount of the PA would like to get back to this assuming safety is as good as possible because this is what they love to do.

But it does seem they will lose around 500 million dollars at least in terms of the low-end estimates we have seen thus far and most of that has to be attributed to the gate, concessions, parking and things of that nature if we are to believe the initial estimates floated out there.

I dont get how completing this season would be any different to the two strike shortened seasons. Those are legit Stanley cup wins and so will this years.

Because in those seasons, you didn't have 4 to 5 months off between the regular season and "playoffs". Also, they didn't play in empty stadiums when the season resumed. So it's nothing alike. There should not be an asterisk for 1995 or 2013.
