Not that these 4 need any help in the poll, but:

Cyclone Taylor - A true superstar on the level of an Eddie Shore or Maurice Richard. You can't not have him on your list.

Georges Vezina - The first really great goalie, came to define excellence at the position for his own generation as well as those that followed.

Lester Patrick - He was a very good player, but this is really a "culture" pick based on his post-playing career. He and Frank practically invented the game as we know it today, both on and off the ice. It's very hard to overstate how much we owe the Patricks... they were to hockey what Newton is to physics.

Newsy Lalonde - It was tough between him and Bowie, but I think Lalonde deserves credit for being a similar-caliber star in a more competitive and professional era.

These are all solid candidates, though. As noted, Pitre was one of the most entertaining players in hockey. Bowie and Phillips were both widely believed to be the best players in the world. Lehman was a fantastic goalie, a legit peer to Vezina. LeSueur is a slight step down but still a major figure in the sport for a long time.

I can only hope Didier was an assist king so people could say - What a dish by Pitre!

Memes for science of course.
