Missed the start of your friends' fantasy league? Unwilling to participate in one while having to frantically refresh Behind the Net watching the Corsicas go up and down to have a chance of winning? Long for the days when watching sports didn't need a degree in mathematics? Looking for something with less commitment than all of that? Then I have the game for you!
Throughout the season I will be running a prediction game. The premise is very simple: You predict the score of Avalanche games and get points depending on how accurate you are. The person with the most points at the end of the season wins. Below is all the information I can think of being relevant.
Scoring format:
2 points for correct winning team
2 points for correct score (either side)
5 points for correct whole score
3 points for correct GWG scorer
PLUS
10 bonus points for every consecutive fully correct prediction.
Some examples of how this scoring system will work:
Wild 0 Avalanche 9 (MacKinnon)
If the Avalanche beat the Wild 9-0 with MacKinnon getting the GWG then you score:
2 points for the correct winning team
5 points for the correct whole score
3 points for the correct GWG scorer
For a total of 10 points.
In the same game, if the prediction was instead Wild 1 Avalanche 9 (Rantanen) then:
2 points for the correct winning team
2 points for correct score (one team)
For a total of 4 points.
Points are only awarded if you guess the correct winning team. So if you say the Avalanche will win 3-0 but they get beat 5-3, you won't get any points.
How to play:
For each game of the 18/19 Avalanche season I will make a thread for you to post your predictions in. If you want to play, post in the thread saying which team you think will win, what you think the score will be and who you think will score the game winning goal. (If the game goes to a shootout, the scorer of the decisive goal is classed as the GWG scorer) You don't have to play every game - I will keep track of all the predictions you make over the course of the season.
Miscellaneous rules:
- All predictions have to be made before the listed start time of the game. If the game starts at 7PM MT and your post is at 7:01, it won't count. If it is edited after the start time it won't count.
- If you change your username over the course of the season you have to tell me to keep your points.
- Due to my schedule I will very rarely watch games live and rarely be able to update the standings immediately. All threads will be closed for entries when a game starts. All games will have threads made for them with as much time as possible to allow predictions to be made. I apologise in advance for any delays throughout the season.
