WC: 17 Year Old Captain

I was looking over the rosters of some of the lower-division World Championship teams and I came across something pretty interested. On team Iceland, not only is Sigurdur Thorsteinsson the youngest player on the roster, he is also the captain.

I was thinking that it has to be pretty uncommon for a player as young as Thorsteinsson, who is 17, to captain a team full of players older than him, with the oldest player being 33. What would make this kid at such a young age a better candidate for captain than any of the veterans on the team? Also, are there any examples of this happening on any of the top teams in the world (ie. countries who have made it to the olympics or div. 1 WC)?

It seems for real. Looking to official game reports (via IIHF, look here ), he was really the man with "C".

By the way, when i look to the reports, there is a player with "BP". What does it mean? Bench Player?

For example - PALSSON Robert (BP)

He meant the way kid got the C was some kind of practical joke which is probably true.

BP stands for Best Player and basically means he was selected player of the game
