ISLANDERS NOTES

- In an effort to kickstart the power play and snap a two-game losing streak, Barry Trotz shook up the Isles power-play units at Monday's practice.

Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock switched units, with Pulock joining Anders Lee, Josh Bailey, Jordan Eberle and Nick Leddy. Barzal skated with Brock Nelson, Andrew Ladd, Cal Clutterbuck and Johnny Boychuk.

"We don't feel they were going the way we wanted, so going with a couple of different looks," Trotz said. "Some changes will hopefully give us some production in that area of our game."
The Islanders power play went 0-for-9 on their two-game road trip in Florida and are 1-for-19 over the past five games.

The Barzal-Pulock swap was the biggest takeaway, as was Barzal switching from the left side to the right side.

"He's capable of making plays on both sides," Trotz said. "He's capable of attacking people, making plays through people, he can use his skating, his deception and his passing skills when he needs to and he can rocket it pretty good too."

One of other takeaways was Andrew Ladd's inclusion, as Ladd yet to see regular power-play time this season after he missed a majority of training camp and the start of the campaign. Ladd had played on the Islanders power play in each of the past two seasons.

Trotz, who refrains from designating a power-play one and a power-play two, said he plans to roll with the hot hand.

"Both units both bring different elements to the game," Trotz said. "We just talked to the group today, there's not a first or second, they are both very distinct in what they do, so we're just going to go next up, whoever is going good."

- Brock Nelson is sitting at 199 career points. Nelson, who centered Ladd and Eberle at Monday's practice, leads the Islanders with eight goals this season.

- Matt Martin (upper body) is still considered day-to-day and did not skate with the team at Monday's practice.

- The Islanders will wear their third jerseys on Tuesday night.

CANUCKS NOTES

- The Canucks are off to a hot start, leading the Pacific Division with 22 points.

- Rookie Elias Pettersson has burst onto the NHL scene, lighting up the league with 17 points (10G, 7A) in his first 13 games. Pettersson has shown some soft hands and a scoring touch. Pettersson joins Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat as the Canucks new nucleus in wake of the Sedins retirement last season.

- The Canucks are playing the second game of a back-to-back set after 2-1 loss vs the Rangers on Monday night. The loss snapped the Canucks seven-game point streak (5-0-2).

Starting Goalies:

Jacob Markstrom

Markstrom will start against the Islanders on Tuesday.
Markstrom will make his second start in as many nights after getting the nod against the Rangers on Monday. He stopped 25 of 27 shots as the Canucks fell short by a score of 2-1. He continues to be leaned on heavily by coach Travis Green despite a lackluster .900 SV% on the season. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against a high-scoring Islanders team.

Thomas Greiss

Greiss will start Tuesday vs. the Canucks.
Greiss allowed three gaols on 35 shots in the Islanders loss to Montreal on November 5th. Greiss has played well when called upon this season, going 4-2-1 with a 1.98 GAA, .940 SV% and one shutout. He draws a quality matchup on Tuesday against Canucks team that has lost three of four and come in on the tail-end of a back-to-back.

Canucks played last night, isles haven’t played since Saturday. A game they should win.

But, well, yeah. Islanders.

I see a 7-2 win tonight, it just seems like the Isles will break out of it tonight, a few days to reflect on losses, Canucks played last night, Cizikas will get 2 tonight

It would be embarrassing if for the third straight week the Rags of all teams beat a team immediately before/after we lose to them (Panthers, Montreal, Vancouver). If Markstrom doesnt play tonight, it will also be the second straight time we get the backup goalie (Rags got Price last week), AND this time we are getting the team on the second night of back to backs. These are games you have to win. If we do not win tonight and Thursday, I could seriously envision that good start fading away REALLY quickly.

“There wasn’t a shooting mentality,” Trotz said. “We’re trying to get a little more of that…When everyone is a playmaker, there’s no plays that get made…There’s not enough guys thinking shot.”

Man, I love this round-headed ba***rd

Pointing out the painfully obvious youd think would be something simple to accomplish..
