Hextall said the PK is visually better despite the numbers? Uh, no.

According to the American Optometric Association:

"Periodic eye and vision examinations are an important part of preventive health care. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms, so you might not know a problem exists. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems can help prevent vision loss."

From what I caught listening...

Visually our PK, at times, has looked better but the numbers don't reflect that. Would have liked to aquire a veteran PK'er but it didn't happen.

Hak and him talk everyday about PK, PP, players, etc. The young players are making strides that's part of his evaluation. That being said we all need to be better.

Vorobyev, Rubtsov, Friedman, Kase, and Myers were really good last night. Also it was the best game he's seen this year from Myers.

Hak wants to find NAK more minutes, but he's not concerned that he hasn't played more. He's created energy.

Carter Hart has stayed on his feet more, gotten more patient. He's coming along well.

Sanheim, Laughts, Weise have played well.

We have good young players coming so have to be careful at trade deadline. Don't want to box out kids. Hesitant to aquire a rental. Would go after a difference maker.

Sounds reasonable to me, he knows there's a problem with the PK, but before you throw Lappy under the bus you have to have a replacement ready to step in, it's quite possible he's been sniffing around and hasn't found anyone midseason.

The problem with NAK is simple, whose minutes does he take? Voracek? TK? Simmonds?
If Hextall is thinking about moving Simmonds near the TDL, he has to play him to retain value.

Uh, Cap'n, notice Bunnaman didn't get a mention?

"We have good young players coming so have to be careful at trade deadline. Don't want to box out kids. Hesitant to aquire a rental. Would go after a difference maker."

Notice the bold: he doesn't want to bring in a rental veteran because he's looking to promote some kids in the spring, but he might package some kids/veterans if he can land a difference maker.

Its pretty clear that Hextall has some major blind spots. Hes our very own Ed Wade. Now we gotta bring in our Pat Gillick.

And yet I've been told he's playing chess while every other GM is playing checkers among many other things. He even knows his own faults but yet doesn't want to rationalize them. The fact he even said he is loyal to a fault is very problematic.

Brewing a stout in the garage and won't get to see all of this, but that first pairing sure is...curious?

Love how he mentioned Dale Waste as a top nine fixture and basically said his play merits it. Same interview, he's telling everyone that he doesn't want the young players blocked.

Different context.
Weise has earned his PT, but it's also due to injury.
NAK will probably get sent back down to play everyday when JVR and Raffl return, because it's going to be crowded.
However, at some point a player will get injured/fall off the cliff and NAK will get another shot.

Trade deadline, Hextall was signalling that he likes his AHL players to the extent where he doesn't see much point in trading for a veteran rental just to fill out the roster, and who are you going to get who'd be an upgrade over Raffl/Weise on the 4th line. Maybe an upgrade over Weal at 3C, or Lehtera at 4C if Laughton doesn't move back to center, but you could just go with Vorobyev and Rubtsov in the spring in that case.

So he's saying he's only in the market for a core piece ("difference maker") who'd be cost controlled and under contract, not a rental.
That is, a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman, or an above average goalie.

Did Hextall really say that?

I remember Dean Lombardi saying it. So I guess Hextall is Lombardi at this point.

CSN pregame show says the D pairs are...

Ivan - Folin
Hagg - Sanheim
Ghost - Gudas

WHAT???
I actually see that as good news.

Folin > Hagg so Provy gets an upgrade.
Gudas > Folin so Ghost gets an upgrade
And Hagg-Sanheim could mean more icetime for Sanheim since you know Hagg is Haks favorite player.
