SEASON SERIES (NYI trail 0-0-1)

The New York Islanders and Florida Panthers are meeting for the second time this season. The Panthers beat the Islanders 3-2 in overtime on Oct. 24 at Barclays Center. The Isles had a 2-0 lead in the third period, but the Panthers scored two goals to force OT, while Mike Hoffman scored the game-winner.

ISLANDERS NOTES:

- Barry Trotz tried some new line combinations at Friday's practice in Sunrise, trying out Mathew Barzalbetween Anders Lee and Josh Bailey. Brock Nelson centered Jordan Eberle and Tom Kuhnhackl, while Anthony Beauvillier skated with Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck.
Valtteri Filppula and Adam Pelech also practiced with the Islanders second power-play unit, replacing Beauvillier and Johnny Boychuk, respectively.
Trotz did not commit to using the new line combinations or power-play units, but wanted to see a different look.

- The Isles have earned points in six straight games (3-0-3) in Florida, per statistician Eric Hornick. The Isles are 6-2-3 in their last 11 regular season games in South Florida.

- Josh Bailey leads the Islanders with 17 points (5G, 12A) in 15 games this season and has points in nine of his last 10 games.
- The Islanders are 5-1-2 in their past eight games, but are winless in their last two games.

- The Islanders power play is 1-for-15 over the past four games. The penalty kill is 10-for-11 in their past three games.

PANTHERS NOTES:

- The Panthers are paying tribute to the life and legacy of Bill Torrey on Saturday night. Torrey was Florida's first General Manager, taking over the expansion Panthers after his time with the Islanders.

- The Panthers have won two straight games - Florida's first winning streak of the season. Since starting 0-2-2, Florida is 4-3-1.

- Roberto Luongo has won two straight starts since returning from a knee injury suffered in the Panthers season opener. Luongo stopped 71 of the 74 shots he's faced in three games this season.

- The Panthers have gone 7-for-23 (30.4 percent) with the man advantage in their last five outings.

- Evgenii Dadonov leads the Panthers in goals (7) and points (14). Keith Yandle leads Florida with 10 assists and is second with 13 points.

- Mike Hoffman is riding a 10-game point streak (6G, 5A).

Hopefully, we can work out a deal sending Nelson, Hickey and Fritz for Trochek..that's 3 for 1!!!

Good game boys.. Don't let the last two get you down...you know how to play the Cappy game. Out-Cappy them tonight!

Really need to grab 2 points here, get back into the win column and 1st place.

Not loving Beau on the 4th line-rather see him down in BP playing significant minutes & PP to get his confidence back. Interesting also to see BT flipping top 6 minutes, namely the C's. Thought Nelson was playing well with Bailey and Lee. Barzy was being dragged down by Beau so thought he just needed a productive LW.

I assume Greiss will be in tonight.

This should be a very interesting game. Isles off to the better start but FL with the deeper roster and with as many as four games in hand on the leaders (!) to get back on track. Both fighting for respect. Both play in front of sparse home crowds with very little energy in building to get them going. I expect a good battle.

PS. Always chafes me when I listen to FL feed and hear Denny Potvin doing the Panther's color. It's stupid I know, but there it is.

Luongo is back. Plays well vs Isles. Will be tough sledding tonight. Don’t care how they do it, leave with 2.

Maybe just as tough as Thursday’s game. Fla. plays NYI well, they’ve been better as of late, and Lu is locked in.

Stave off a 3-game winless streak. Play the full 60, ‘hard and smart;’ the Barry version that is.

Who is supposed to be starting

Islanders' Robin Lehner: LIkely starter Saturday

Lehner is expected to start Saturday versus the Panthers, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
This is not written in ink, but rather an educated guess as Thomas Greiss participated in an optional skate Saturday morning while Lehner did not. This is usually a sign that Lehner will start. Coach Barry Trotz is playing it coy with his starter and trying to keep the Panthers' guessing.

Thanks

Trotz coyness isn't good for my fantasy lol

I hope Trotz does follow thru on putting Filppula on the 2d PP unit for Beau and also taking Boychuk off. I can see Filppula being a guy who can set up Pulock on the PP for one-timers, and from what I've seen Boychuk has been too much the focus at the point. I have a feeling this could be a very positive change if BT actually does it.
