lets see some discussion this time

Why don't you start then buddy? These are all pretty much long shots or low ceiling high floor types, I don't have a strong sense of how to parse them.

Cecconi was a 5th rounder. He's a future first pair obviously. But seriously, I think Vala and Heatherington are underrated. Both are capable, future 3rd/low end 2nd pair guys imo. I had a 4th round grade on Vala when he came out. I'm still not sure why he went undrafted.

Shapiro has said Vala's skating is bad. Bad skating defenseman not such a good bet for success IMO. Meanwhile, the board has Smith who has already played in the NHL and Gardner who Shapiro says is a lock to be a 4th liner according to other scouts.

Vala is a 6'5, of course his skating isn't the best. Jokki, Oleksiak, and even Johns are all similar in that regard. Sure he needs to work on it, but I'm pretty confident thinking he can be a 3rd pair guy if everything else pans out. Saying he can't based purely off skating is like saying Robertson won't be anything more than a 3rd liner because his first step is atrocious. Vala compensates from what I've seen.

I actually like Gardner, but where did you hear he was a lock for the 4th line?

I honestly didn't see Smith when I voted, he's my next pick in the next one of these things

People said things like "his skating is good for someone his size" with Oleksiak. They do not say that about Vala.
